Since your 577 is 13.5#, recoil won't killya. If it was lighter, your fillings would just loosen up and fall out. You'll be OK especially if it fits you. In the proper weight DR, it definitely is more than a 470 by at least half as much but bearable. Just don't try benching as yet, way too much fun.

Gotta be 40 years back when I was around 35 I bought a cased detachable lock Westley Richards .577 Nitro, I was in good shape, 5'8" 165 pounds. Two shots were enough, felt like I was in the middle of an earthquake. Sold it immediately to none other than Elmer Keith who wrote me it was a pussycat. Also had an 8 bore double BP about the same time, forget the make but a good one, also violent but didn't seem quite as bad. I now have a 6 bore flintlock rifle by Jover, London, weighs about 10.5, if I can find a 6 bore mould I will get up my courage to try it out, of course I can start with mild charges.

Cheapest?? Huh? I wouldn't worry about any of that and just concentrate on getting the Searcy in my grubby paws instead. The other rifles you mentioned would be a little light and really beat you to death.

Owning one has always been a dream since I shot one when I was a damn stupid kid out of AIT. Shot my hunting partner's dad's 577 on the bench and got knocked on my ass for all to see.

So you're the one responsible for my unending but unattainable "big want" of a WR 577. When I read that EK went to Africa with a WR 577, my eyes just glazed over for a while.

If Elmer's .577 is still in its original case it would be readily recognizable. Some criminal had used the open case as a backstop for an air gun and the inside of the lid was stuck full of hourglass pellets.

Maineguide:
My old man (Doc52) is having Butch make one for him also. Delivery is slated for the first of the year.
I posted some previous information on his project piece, and plan on updating it as the project progresses.

Clark,
Thanks but I read all these posts as they came out. I can't wait to see your Dad's gun completed.
