Interarms Mark X 375 H&H
      #23077 - 01/01/05 12:50 PM

I just picked up a like new Interarms Mark X 375 originally bought in '83 or '84. It's not the Whitworth Express model but is essentially the same rifle(Zastava). It doesn't have the express sights or barrel swivel stud. It does have the monte carlo wooden stock, double recoil lugs, and non-express single blade adjustable rear sight. Thing is, I've never encountered a Mark X 375 in anything other than the Whitworth Express or the Alaskan model (which came with synthetic stock). Mine being neither, I was curious as to what Mark X species it is (Classic, Viscount, etc.). It is a completely unaltered Zastava factory rifle. If anybody has one of these or knows what particular model of Mark X mine is that info would be appreciated.

I used to have a Whitworth 375 and a 458. The ads that were in the gun magazines in the 1980's showed the rifle you describe. It was called the Alaskan. It had the sights and stock you describe.

I owned one back in the mid 80s, and found it to be a solid, dependable performer. Accuracy was decent with the 300 grain Nosler Partitions. Then Nosler stopped making bullets for the 375, and I traded it in for a shotgun. As I recall, the only quirk it had was that the action had to be worked rather stoutly in order for it to eject a spent shell reliably.

NE450,
So the Alaskan model did come with a wooden stock? From what I'd heard the Alaskan only came in synthetic stock. I guess that's what we've got here. Interesting I don't recall seeing ads for the gun in the 80's. I'd be curious to see one. At any rate, I'll be putting a synthetic stock on it eventually. Our weather/conditions here in SE AK demand it.

mikeh416rigby,
I plan to run either the 300 grain Noslers or Trophy Bonded and see how it performs. Along with my 338 Win Mag, this'll be one of my bear guns. I've really liked the performance of the TBBC's - so I'll probably stick with them especially for the brownies. The action isn't the smoothest, but it's strong, and that's what we need here in SE Alaska more than anything. I just had a fairly rugged hunt on Chichagof Island with my Weatherby only to have the bolt release lever break toward the end of the hunt. The Mark X I am confident can hold up. Again, in brown bear country this is imperative.

The TBBC is certainly one of the better choices for stuff that can bite back.

Deishu,

Let me know where you find a synthetic stock for your Alaskan and how you like it. I need one for mine.

In reply to:

So the Alaskan model did come with a wooden stock?

DeishuAK
Welcome, this may be of interest.
In a 1976 Guns Illustrated there is a small photo of the
Mark X Alaskan Magnum Rifle cal 375 H&H Mag and 458 Win Mag and the stock is described as being....Select Walnut with crossbolt, hand checkered p.g. and fore-end, Monte Carlo, sling swivels.

It appears to have whiteline spacers under the recoil pad and at the fore-end tip.

4seventy,
That seals the deal on IDing the rifle. It's clearly the Alaskan model. It's exactly as described. Thanks.

luv2safari,
I've been checking around for synthetic stocks for the Mark X (magnum). They are available out there, however, we'll probably have a little inletting to do since our model ("Alaskan") has the recoil lug on barrel. I'm not sure if any of the market synthetic stocks for the Mark X provide for the recoil lug. If anybody has info on this we'd appreciate that, too.
