Marlin 375 and Sharps 1874 "A" sporting rifles

Not the hardest hitting .375 on the block but its plenty for most of the game in my area. This is a discontinued Marlin model that was offered in the early 1980's. This lever action was made in 1982 before Marlin started making their rifles with the hammer block safety in the same year. It has a very fine Burris 4 power scope along with a leather sling.





The .375 Winchester is a modern rimmed cartridge that is almost an exact clone of the 38-55 black powder cartridge. It's factory loaded offerings where 200 grain loads for deer and black bear while the 250 loads were intended for larger game such as moose, elk and grizzly at close range.



This rifle, now being discontinued for over 30 years now is still favored by a few sportsmen who likes the fast shooting of the lever action. And hunting in deep woods and thickets where shooting can be sometimes fast and close.

This is a 1874 Sharps Model "A" rifle made and the end of Sharps tenure of rifle making. During this time Sharps were assembling rifles with what ever parts they had left on hand. The 24 inch barrel is half octagon half round with the top of the barrel marked with the famous "Old Reliable". This rifle is chambered in for the obsolete Sharps 40-70 Sharps bottle nose cartridge. Although hand loading and a few custom cartridges is still an option. The barrel is also marked with "J P LOWER DENVER", who was an outfitter and dealer back during the days.



The 40-70 Sharps bottle nose is also a moderate velocity cartridge. Although I can reload for it sadly I've never gotten around to do so or shoot it.

Nice - my own .375 was a top eject 1978 Big Bore 94 XTR. I loaded 220gr. FN's and shot 2 moose with it in the early 80's.
The littlest .375 is a GREAT round.

Sharps is in nice shape. The .40/70/370 2-1/4BN was a good round.

Daryl - that's the one I want! It's basically a 30-30 straightened? Or is the 30-30 the 38-55 necked down?

They get snapped up in this country, $700-1100, missed out on one for $400, included dies too.. =(

Gotta love moderate velocity calibres.

Yes - that's the one. Since my loads were fairly moderate, I used necked up .30/30 WW cases.

Make a hell of a pig whacker.
