Cleaning rods ,guides for big bores
      #22416 - 19/12/04 10:18 PM

I,m half way through cleaning out the 458 Lott and have some questions. Who makes bore guides for big bores in CZ550s or Brno 602s? Also who makes decent thick sturdy cleaning rods and jags, brushes to suit. The only brushes and jags I have are to suit the same rods which I use in my .224" barrels. Does any one make cleaning gear for the big stuff?

Dewey makes both cleaning rods and adjustable bore guides for the big bores. I believe that Stoney Point also makes an adjustable bore guide.

I thought the Stoney point guide only went up to .400 or 416 cal. I will look into it. I am using one of the stoney point ones and know that mine wont fit the bigger brushes.

I checked the Dewey site and they only go up to .416 cal. If any one out there has a lathe ,making brass or aluminium bore guides to fit the big bores is an untapped market.

4Seventy . Ive sent you an email. I would certainly like a custom bore guide made up if you can. No one else seems to make these. Maybe its an untapped market you could move into.

For a bore guide for any caliber, take a fired case drill out the primer hole and push and glass a 10 inch section or aluminum arrow shaft in the primer hole (push it in to the shoulder) and you have an excellent bore guide for any caliber..I have a coffee can full of these...Take out the bolt and push the case into the chamber and your set with a perfect mating to the chamber and throat.

You can even cut a slot in the arrow shaft about half way and use that to oil a patch..I just put a towell or piece of whatever over the butt stock so the run off from pushing a wet patch into the shaft doesn't drip on the stock finish....

Cheap and efficient...

Thanks for the tip Ray. I have some spare arrow shafts and cases ,I will make up a cheap guide this way.
