This project took much longer than what I anticipated, due to a lot of factors. The important thing is that I will be hunting with my new baby this year. Only the final small things must be done.

I got a Vector double square bridge action and a now a very scarce vector barrel. I cannot wait to try it out.

It will be a nice rifle , but if you hunt with this year is imho not sure ! The problem is international :
Expected time for one of my big bores 3 months , real time 1 1/2 year . Altogether a good time .
A new stock for a DR , expected time 6 months , real time 2 years .
In Germany you have sometimes to wait 6 years for a rifle by some very good gunmakers !

The whole process have been taken almost 4 years, Frikkie the gunsmith who is building it for me is only working on my rifle now, we should have it blued by the end of next week and then it must go to the SABS for proofing. I might just be lucky.

Nice rifle but I hate those ugly ventilated bud pads.

Will be a great and useful rifle and calibre for your hunting. Hopefully see you post a photo of it and a dead animal before the year is out.

Thanks for all the comments, I am really looking forward to the completion of my rifle.
My biggest headache now is to decide what sighting system I must put on the rifle. Must I use expess sights or a peep sight? What scope must I use or will a red dot scope also work.
The rifle will be used mostly for close range hunting, not further than 50 meters.
I am wearing reading glasses, otherwise my eyes are very good, what influance will that have on a peep sight. I think I must scrap this one as it will only be a blur.
I will definately have detachable bases for the scope.
What do you think.

I can speak on this subject due to some experience. I too use reading glasses.
If using iron sight get a large flat bead or fibre optic front sight and go for the peep. With the open sights you have 3 focal planes, rear & front sigth and the target. With a peep -even with aged eyes- you still tend to naturaly centre your eye and front sight so in effect cuts out one sighting plane.
Red dot sights I would go for an Aimpoint - have one- as there is no parralax error and once sighted the dot can appear to be,say, in the top right of the scope but if it is on your point of aim then you are on. They are a robust scope as designed to handle 50cal BMG. The early ones were designed for 20mm cannons.
The other thing I have found with the Aimpoint is that they are the quickest scope I have used, even quicker and easier then the helographic sights.
Hope this is some help or does it just add to the confussion.

Greg, thanks for the advice, I had the idea that a peepsight would work, but it is worth it to make sure. I will definately look at the aimpoint, maybe one of my clients can bring it from the states for me.

Greg I looked at the aimpoint website, I've got a lot to learn about red dot scopes. The ones I think that will work on my rifle is the 9000L or the hunter H34L. What is your experience, what are you using.
Anybody is welcome to chirp in, as said I am not very familiar with red dot scopes. Please air your opinion, I will appretiate all comments.

I really don`t like like aimpoints or doctor sights, I`ve tried quite a lot of them and would always choose a scope instead. In your case I would go for a 1-4*24 scope with an illuminated cross. All the big brands has one for sale. Zeiss also offer one with just a red dot. I my selves went for a Meopta Meostar r1 1-4*24 with illuminated K-dot, just as fast as any aimpoint sight and no problem shooting with both eyes open. I use my 1-4*24 on a drilling, so it gets used both for the rifle barrel and the shotgun barrels.
