Hello all. I have decided I would like to buy my first big bore rifle. I know of a Brno 602 in 375 for sale, its in excellent condition,or would I be better off buying the newer model ? Are there any improvements on the newer model ?
Thank you

I like the quality of the 602s. I like the single set triggers on the CZ550.

Ned,
I have a brand new CZ550 in .375H&H in the top of my closet right now. But, the wife won't let he have it till Christmas...After that I'll let you know how it shoots.

Thanks guys.
ATHiker07 you poor bugger, how do you sleep at night, knowing your new toy is sitting in the closet, unfired !!!
Please correct me if I am wrong, I have only seen the new CZ model "safari magnum" I think its called here in Australia, is there a model called the "American safari" ?
I think I saw a picture of one somewhere, and it had a different shape stock to the "safari magnum". It looked better anyway. Is this correct ?

Ned,
Yes, the new CZ 550 American Safari Magnum has a straight stock and is available in superior grade wood for about $300.00 more. Otherwise it's the same price as the original model. I went with the original just because it's so different from everything that's typically seen around here.

Here is the web site for the 550 American:

the safety direction is reversed on the two models... the 602 is "backwards" by US standards, i.e.: Push it forward for safe and pull it back for fire. The 602's are a little rougher in the overall finish as well.

if that will bother you, then better plan on adding an aftermarket safety or look at the 550s. My big-bore BRNO was meant to be a "beater" backup to my double, so i was more interested in saving a few hundred bucks in getting an older 602. a good price on a used 602 would be around $500.00 - much more than that and you can get close to buying a new 550.

Does the 602 have the push button pop up peep sight? These are supposed to be more desirable. I would say if it has this peep site ,then get it ,then get a Wisner 3 position saftey fitted if you like later on.

Thanks for the tips guys. I dont think it has the peep sight.
Was just reading an old thread on the forum about CZ bringing out the 550 model in 404 jeffrey. If I buy a new 550, I might step up from the 375 and get one of those if they arent to expensive, and if they are available in Australia. Are any companies making 404 ammo yet ?
