What is the lowest impact velocity that anyone has used a 570g TSX at and still gotten decent expansion? I'm planning to take my 500 Jeffery elk hunting this January again (if my health permits) and would like to know what the minimum impact velocity I should be looking at for decent expansion. My load is 105g H4895 giving 2410 fps. Sighted in 3" high at 100 yards, it's 5" low at 250 yards moving at 1982 fps and 12" low at 300 yards going 1786 fps ...
Thanks,
Chuck

Dont the smaller TSX bullets expand down to about 1800 fps or so? I would give Barnes a call and see what they say, no doubt the .510" bullets will be made tougher than the standard run of the mill calibers. I kinda agree though if the bullet is going to punch a neat 1/2" hole you wont need a bigger one to get the job done on an Elk! I'm pretty sure it will be enough gun fo the job at hand.
