Two Gun Hunt
      #167616 - 12/09/10 08:39 AM

In the primary stages of planning a 14 day Tuskless Elephant and Buffalo hunt. I have in the safe a scoped .375 H&H and a 450 3/4 NE double that will make the trip. Every know and then I think I want to replace the .375 with a .416 Rigby..
Thoughts please thanks Zephyr

Hi Zephyr,

I'd stay with the "Queen" of Africa and if you must have a .416 Rigby just buy another and keep the .375H&H as the gap between a .416 Rigby and the .450 is close in my opinion. You have a good pair already, leave it alone...

Cheers,

Jeff Gray

I would give up about anything else before I'd give up my 375 H&H

In my opinion, the 375 is the most versatile "world wide rifle" ever made.

Sounds like an ideal combination to me.

Main rifle, the .450.

Back up big bore, the .375 and also not bad for any plains game, plus it is scoped as well.

My cape buffalo hunt in 2002, all I took was a .375 for buffalo plus assorted plains game.

Its a great combo. For the same hunt I use a 9.3x62 and 470 which is about the same as your set.

The scoped .375 will also come in handy if you need a scoped rifle to shoot a buffalo in a herd situation.

On my last safari, the guide and I swapped rifles for a buffalo hunt. The buffalo bulls were weaving in and out of the herd and the scope made it easier to pick a shot without other animals being in danger. Did not shoot anything at this time though.

Meanwhile the PH covered five elephant bulls with my .450, just in case they became aware we were 20 yards behind their arses most of the time.

I'm no expert on DG hunting, but it seems to me that the 416 could be an "in between" if you only wanted to take one rifle. The 375 would still have much merit for other game and longer shots. Your 375hh and 450ne sounds like an ideal combination.

I must also jump on the .375 H&H bandwagon. A great gun and one that I love. If I had my druthers I'd tell you to take the .30-06 (I know that it's "too small" for African DG). IMHO, the .30-06 will kill everything and anything anywhere in the world...

Speaking of 375 H&Hs----------

I have a CZ 550 in excellent condition here that a friend wants to sell. $900.
If anyone is interested please e-mail me or PM me.
