TOPIC: Change my 458 Lott for a 460 Weatherby Magnum
      #162853 - 27/06/10 01:51 AM

Hello, a friend sold a 460 Wth.Magnum, as you know I have a 458 Lott and I am tempted to sell my Ceska and buy the 460 Weatherby. And I wonder what is truly worth the change?. I have not yet released the 458 Lott because ammunition is very expensive.

Thank

Oscar.

Hehehe, you're going to answer in all forums. I have a press and dies for the 458 Lott, now I need a good place to put it all, buy the rest and start to recharge. The truth is that the 460 Weatherby is my stubbornness.

Regards,

Oscar

IMHO changing from a Brno .458 Lott to a contraption like the abdominable .460 Weatherby is simply foolish!

God no.

Keep the CZ, forget about that weatherby.
It will handle like a canoe paddle and there is no good reason to switch cartridges.
The Lott is a ripper.

Cheers

But it is much less powerful than the 460 Weatherby right?

Thanks,

Oscar.

Which model 460Weatherby? I played with one a few weeks ago (DGR) and came away impressed other than the bolt handle which thoroughly tenderised my trigger finger. This is my 'weakness' when it comes to big bore rifles ... some designs strike me on the finger just under the knuckle.

The inline feed of the Weatherby is in my opinion more reliable than the staggered feed CZ but you lose magazine capacity. Both 458Lott and 460Weatherby are reloading propositions, I'd be tempted by the 460Weatherby as they hold resale much better and when reloaded can be dropped back to 458Lott speeds at super mild pressures.
Cheers...
Con

.458 Lott will take any animal on earth. So will a .460 Weatherby.

It's up to you. Just how much do you want your shoulder to hurt?

My favorite is the Lott. Where I live (Las Vegas, NV) ammo for the Lott is 50% of the cost of the Weatherby.

I like them both. Currently am shooting a .257 Magnum Weatherby Deluxe MK V which I do love. Little shiny, though.

It is a Weatherby Mark V (I think), it comes with a viewer and cartridges, for a price of 1800 euros ($ 2221.92). The problem is that I sell my Ceska and still fall short of money. My rifle is new, without firing a shot, and I give a Ceska original stock (it was a 416 Rigby).I do not know what to do.

You have a rifle that's capable of planting whatever animal on the planet you choose to hunt.

The Weatherby pushes bullets faster, and it burns more powder and it runs more expensive brass, and you don't have the reloading dies for it yet, you do for the lott.

The CZ is stocked in a very nice handling configuration which is versatile and sweet to carry and shoot.
The Weatherby is stocked in a different fashion which assumes you'd be running a telescopic sight - and would be a serious compromise over iron sights.

You already own the CZ
If I recall properly, you went through quite a bit of sacrifice and effort to get the funds together and to get through the process of getting the CZ
This has appeared to me to have been somewhat of an emotional process for you, but you took great strides along the way to assure yourself you'd made the right choice.

If your emotions are getting affected by the Weatherby to a great enough extent to have you seriously second-guessing your purchase of the CZ - and you can't rest at night because of this, damn the money and get the Weatherby and live with it.

Cheers

Hello, haha, really no big deal I can live perfectly well without the Weatherby and sleep well. Thank you very much for your post, I will continue my Ceska, which as you say it took me a few months to save.

Thanks,

Oscar.

I don't own a 460 but from everything I've heard and read, I think you've made a wise decision

What is the wise decision? To maintain my 458 Lott?.

Thanks,

Oscar.
