Well, this is probably not going to read like a glamourous Safari ala Ruark. In fact I know it won't, but I will do my best.
So my Brother in law is setting up a workbench in an unused corner of my shop....don't you love stories that start with "So my Brother in law"....anyway, he is putting up a small wall. I have one of those concrete nail drivers that use .22 blanks. So I am looking through my drawers for the driver, you know, the quick open/glance/close routine...when I realize I just saw a freakin rat in one of them. I didn't see the whole rat, just it's tail end. I call my BIL over to see, and I open the drawer....yup, still there, built a nest and doesn't want to leave. The damn thing turns to see who is "disturbing the peace" as it were. I'm wordering if I am still quick enough to just grab it's tail and spike it on the ground when Buck ( my BIL's nickname...I don't know how he got it)suggests I shoot it with my prototype rifle. I wasn't keen on sending a round into my workbench, but even less on having a rat raise it's brood in my domain of financial aquisition.
Calmly I close the drawer and leave it for about an hour to settle in. Come back, with the rifle loaded and at the ready, slide the drawer open....this is intense tracking....there she sits... Slowly turning towards me she gives me the "you owe me money" look. I don't take kindly to such harrasment. Sensing a possible charge, I shoulder the rifle and let the right barrel go. Clean pass through and the bullet lodges in the bottom of the rubber drawer liner. Range was 1yd ( remarkable accuracy at this range). It was all over as quickly as it began. Pure killer instincts as play.
Well that's it. The first kill for my double rifle. Just nice to know if I needed that second shot.....

Make sure to save the cape! You could have a really nice drink coaster with some fond hunting memories to go with it.

That's one classy way to snuff a rodent.
Ya gonna mount it?

Way to go Bailey!
I've owned a few rimfire SxS cape guns with .22 and 9mm, rifle and shot. I'd often run roundball in the 9mm side and they all tended to hit together over the sights. Shot charges in the 9mm are murder on rats and mice close in, the .22 have all been quite accurate across our lot, and I've nailed scores of squirrels and possum with the .22 and the 9mm roundball.
It's quite satisfying with the micro side-by-sides isn't it!
Cheers Tinker

You need to carve a notch on the stock to remember this!

Did your brother-in-law grab you by the thumb and do a little dance around the workshop and then carry you piggy-back to the campfire?
Any offspring in the nest?

Good thing you had a double though - a quick second shot might have been necessary to stop a charge elicited through the application of the first.
