Thinking of getting a 14" pistol in .45-70, but wondering how brutal the recoil is. My biggest handgun experience is with factory .44 magnum ammo in a Desert Eagle and a ruger Redhawk. Also wondering if the compensated barrel makes enough difference in recoil to be worth the noise. Planning on using mostly Ultramax 405 grain cowboy loads or something similar-very tame in the NEF Handi Rifle I had, but don't know about the pistol. Would have asked in the handgun board, but figured the caliber was big enough to go here.

The cowboy loads should be easy recoiling. Shooting them out of a 5 shot revolver is not bad at all. Not a lot of ft.lbs of energy out of a 14" barrel though, especially with cowboy loads.
