Does anyone have experience enough with the 500/416 to give opinions regarding the caliber?

I will soon get my first bigger bore SXS DR, and have about decided on this caliber. I've had two 9,3x74r SXS DRs. I will have good claw mounts or swing mount and a 1.5x5 scope mounted for longer shots with the 350 gr Speers to use on plains game...use the right barrel, only.

I would hope the sights and gun would be regulated for something like Woodleigh 410s at around 2350 to 2400 fps.

With all the crazy restrictions these new governments are trying out, it seens much easier to bring along only one gun.

I don't think those things are going out that fast out of a DB. I think they're going out at 21 something or 22 something.

The 500/416 is supposed to duplicate the Rigby. If so, they need to be launched the same...

Anything that can be done with a 416 Rem Mag or a 416 Rigby Bolt rifle can be done with a 500/416 double rifle IMHO. Of course you need to compare a iron bolt rifle to an iron sighted double and a scoped bolt rifle to a scoped double.
A scoped 500/416 [or for that matter a scoped 450/400] would make an excellent hunting rifle.

Just got back in and accessed the Krieghoff Site. The page shows the 500/416 at 2330 f/s with a 25.5" barrel. Since that's the advertised velocity, the chrono velocity should be in the high 22 something. That should still be a flat shooter and thumper.

A buddy in San Antonio bought a Kreighoff in 500/416. He took it to Africa and was impressed with the rifle and the round.

What I like about the 500/416 is the best of both worlds. You get a flanged cartridge for a double rifle, and you get a great long .416 bullet delivered at moderate pressures.
Remember the primise of a double is not to try and drive a bullet as fast as you can. Some people will not consider the 500/416 a "Stopper" but hey, you'll shoot it a lot more than you would say a 470.

Everyone raves about how well the .416s penetrate and that is a big plus! For me I think the 500/416 will one day become a favored standard by which other rounds will be judged. The more folks that use the round the more the word will spread.

The down side for me is that the recoil is a bit much for me. Just my opine!

It is supposed to duplicate the 416 Rigby and Rem...and I see no reason why it wouldn't...

I consider the 404 Jefferys, and the 416 Rem. a stopper, and it has worked for me as a stopper as has the 450-400-3"....
