Gentlemen
I need some advice regarding what rubber pad I should put on my new double rifle.
It is a .458 win mag and I need something classic looking but also effective.

I like the red decelerator pad. It looks like a silvers and makes my 458 lott very comfortable to shoot almost too comfortable.

No a silvers is the way, hard as bone and the right color.

Maybe a leather covered pad. That's my choice.

You can leather cover a Decelorator and it will work well and look good for a pretty long period of time. It has worked well for my "Argentina" and other high volume shooting, ducks in nice weather, etc, 12ga SxS shotgun. Over time, a visible "hinge" will appear where the leather flexes when the soft pad gives with each shot. I have maybe 30k rounds through the shotgun since the leather covered pad was installed. Still going strong but for the visible hinge, which appears more like honest wear than a problem. Leather pads mount well and after some use they loose their too slick surface and become just the right mix of easy mounting and non-slip.
The Silvers pad hardly flexes and makes for the better base for a leather pad, except for the pain. 
On a more serious note, I have a leather covered Silvers on my 458wm double rifle and it works well, but there really is little in the way of flex compared to the Decelorator. Don't need much flex with the 458wm if I've been keeping up with my shooting and so recoil tollerance, but if I've laid off awhile, well...

Hm - I'd go two ways
- if stock would stay the same colour (and LOP suits you) I'd pick something thin, black in "old english" look..
- stock could be tanned to get that dark dark brown - then I'd put a thick "best london orange" on...

I would go with the red colored Decelerator, it will look good and is a big help in controlling recoil. You can always cover it with leather if you choose to, but I personally don't bother.

Hard to tell what brand, but it has the right look and might do the trick.
I think leather covered is to "fine" for this double, it is after all not a sidelock best quality.
Please post some pictures of the red decelarator pad.
I had a Silvers put on my Mauser and it looks great BUT is a bit hard - Am I getting old? On my .500 Jeffery there was a red pad from "New England Custom guns" That pad works great and has the right look to.

You may like the looks of a Decelerator, but you may find it too soft. I did not like mine at all in that regard.
I fixed this by filling the air holes on the inside of the pad with silicone caulking. Actually, you could easily adjust the firmness of the pad by filling some, all or a portion of the holes with caulk.
I had one fitted to one of my 9.3x57's, and did not like the softness at all. It felt like I was bottoming out on the pad when the rifle was mounted. It just "squished" too much for that rifle. Anyway, I filled all the holes and now have a "firm" pad that has held up very well.

Add my name to the list of fans for the London orange Silvers pad. I don't yet own a double rifle, but I've installed a Silver's pad on 5 of my Weatherby's and also on my Mauser M03. I can attest that the pads do very little to attenuate recoil, but they sure do make up for it in the looks category.
