Conley Precision Cartridge Company also make 470 Nitro in a variety of loadings with Swift A-Frames and Woodleighs being among them. Prices approx $220.00 to $250.00 per box of 20 www.cpcartridge.com

Yes, it is currently available from Norma in their PH series. Kynoch and WR both load it and it is fairly readily available from their dealers, at least here in the US. Dave

Federal Premium is the best on the market, I use it exclusively for 470 calibre.

I am sure you have thought of this--but fairly simple to "roll your own" as well...

All that is needed is quite readily available...and much less expensive once you are in the game..therefore, much more apt too practice and shoot that double more...

Ripp is right for sure, but you have to make a commitment to quality over and above factory ammo, and you have to make a commitment to absolute safety.

I have seen too many people who have stepped into reloading while thinking it is without pitfalls. That's niave. There are many pitfalls and lots of opportunity for failure. The factory ammo producers aren't stupid. Safety isn't automatic. You can blow up a rifle or knock a double off face. It's easy!

I'm not saying you shouldn't do it. What I'm saying is that if you do it you should approach it like it is a most serious venture. Believe me, if you are 45 or 50 years old and just thinking about loading ammo, you are WAY behind the curve. Take it easy, study it fully, and then do it.

Best,
Curl

I know a fellow who swears by the Federal factory loads for the .470 Nitro. He has taken a couple of elephant bulls, three buffalo, two lions and the list goes on. They certainly seem to be working for him. I have had good luck with Hornady ammo as well as reloading components. I started reloading a few months ago and love it. It has allowed me to become proficient with my heavy caliber rifles. I doubt I would have practiced as much if I had to buy retail factory ammo. Another perk is that I found a load that works very well in my .458 lott, and with a bullet not available in any factory ammo without having it custom loaded by Superior or one of the other custom ammo providers. That bullet being the Swift A-Frame 500 grain soft point. A bullet well worth the trouble to have for dangerous game. I havent looked back since starting to reload. I recommend it highly. It would be nice to know someone who has some experience to help you get started. It should be easy to find someone willing to help. To facilitate my focus when reloading (particularly for use on dangerous game) I ALWAYS turn off my phone, turn off TV and put the dog out so I can give my loading undivided attention.

Yes, what are the odds indeed! All my .458 is loaded now. BTW RLI, Be sure to chamber all your loads and make sure they are functional. I shoot a bolt rifle and when I worked mine through one had a protruding primer I didnt catch. It pays to double check everything. I even do it with factory ammo now. Another valuable lesson I learned from the guys on NITROEXPRESS! Thanks Ripp.
