Dreamer,

I am glad you ran one down, they are exceptional pieces to hunt with. Your assumption on prices differs from my personal experience. As the last 4 I have bought have been under $35,000.00

The Rigby rising bite version brings less than the later dolls head models, at least here in the states. I realize a good gun is more difficult to obtain, however the DR in question posted on this thread did have some condition issues, as well as proof issues, which reflects my appraisal of it. It did sell at SCI in Reno for $38,000.00

At least I don't have to worry about it. If you look on the G&H site, it's not there any more. I have to agree with a lot of what's been stated here. I bought my first DR, a 450/400 3" Westley boxlock ejector from a guy here in San Antonio in 1990 for $4,000! Like an idiot, I sold it in 1995 for $6,000 and thought I'd cut a real hog! In '93, I bought a 400/360 William Evans "best" boxlock ejector from a lady in Dallas who was going out of business after trying to run her late husband's business. Thank God, I still have that and my wife and I used it on everything last summer in Namibia. My wife shot an 18 inch Namibian springbok at 160 yds. It has been outfitted with a scope by J.J. Perodeau, and isd incredibly accurate with the 250 gr. Woodleigh. I paid $5,000 for it, with the original case and mo0st of the tools, etc. Although I'm very happy Jack P. bought my .22 HP, I think he's testing the limits here, anbd one has to ask realistically what these plain boxlocks are worth, even considering our puny currency.

Why not re-submit it for proof ?

D,

Some pictures would be really neat to post here, so members can compare the two rifles. Congratulations on a fine purchase.

I'll try to get some photos up if I can. I leave to go Muskox and Polar Bear hunting in two days and I'm pretty strapped for time. If I don't get them up before I leave I will post some when I get back.

These are so so hard to come by, curious where this one went?

Its at the gunsmiths getting a new finish on the stock, and a interior strip and clean. I hear the new owner is stoked with it, so you won't see this one come back up to periscope depth anytime soon..

*G&H's descriptions leave a tad bit to be desired for certain, anyone interested in this rifle should send it to D. Yale or K. Eversull to check out prior to. I can see several condition issues just by the pictures alone, to call this specimen "superb condition" is a bit of a reach. Still, I like it very much, no doubt there's history all over this one. Just needs some TLC..

What a lovely rifle!
