I guess a lot would have to do with how/where/who you acquired it from. There are no Mannlicher records/logs that I'm aware of as it was a production gun.

Have you contacted the Museum of Natural History in NY?
Saw they had a small display on RCA a few years ago, including a description of the 2 rifles he carried all over the world.

Hi Tomo, I am a new member like yourself. I own a 1903 in 6.5MS sporter with 24 inch brl that was restored & it is in immaculate condition. The bore is a bit dark which is to be expected for a rifle used with old ammo. The 5 piece cleaning rod is unused. I shot a deer with it this May (New Zealand hunting season is year round). I also have a 1930 Greek military carbine (1903 action) that was customised by an amature & I am now getting it done by a professional.

You may want to check these sites. There is another one titled Gentleman's rife - I have the link on my home computer. These 3 associations are very helpful & have very knowledgable members. One of them has the best database on MS rifles & Styre actually use his info. One of the founders owns WDM "Karamoja" Bell's famous elephant killing 6.5 MS rifle!

That is the best place to start. They probably have a description of it as well as the 1903 Sprinfield custom made for him when Teddy R got his made.

In one of RCA's books (can't remember which one...I have a lot of them, one signed) he writes about being offered a single shot .22 rifle that he had owned in his youth. The seller wanted quite a bit of money for it and Roy was very amused...of course he declined to buy it...he didn't see why the rifle should be worth so much to him or anyone else just because he had once owned it. I liked his attitude...but I suppose these days a rifle that could be positively connected to him would be worth a premium.
