Enlarged, it appears to be an extension of a sling safety to be pursued by the left thumb.

Neat looking thumb safety, operated by right thumb while aiming the rifle. Very cool.

Not my cup of tea........but the Calibre is!
The 7x64, still right up there speed wise over 108 years on from when it was brought out by Herr Brenneke, a grand old cartridge well ahead of its time!

Former member Mike Bailey had a custom MS 1903 made for him and it had a safety on the back of the bolt similar although smaller than this one.
