A good day at the auction, one I've been looking for
      #365109 - 01/05/22 06:52 AM

I've been trying to add a 1905 to my collection for a long time.

SN: 3752 'John Dickson & Sons, Edinburgh Scotland' retailer marked, Austrian made bolt action rifle which can be easily separated into two shorter pieces without tools. Features European styled walnut stock, approx 23" barrel, ramp front sight (silver bead) on band set back a bit from the muzzle, island rear express sight with one standing and one folding leaf, single trigger, fixed rotary magazine, "butter knife" bolt handle, manual safety at bolt rear, narrow sling swivels. Stock has checkered panels at wrist and forend, checkered steel butt plate with trap door, black composition trap door grip cap. Bore is very good. Retains 80% finish with edge losses, some thinning or color change to gray in places. Stock is food to very good condition with handling marks, some small gouges & scratches. British nitro proofs. Engraved "6631" on trigger guard bow. 14.5" LOP. Cleaning rod sections in butt. Includes fair condition canvas & leather hard case with maker's mark, also partial box (small 10 rd box) of Kynoch ammunition. Condition is NRA Very Good

9x56ms. I hunt with all my guns. I'm of the persuasion that a hunting rifle that doesn't hunt isn't much good. lol

Great old calibre mate to hunt in your neck of the woods so to speak!
As to a hunting rifle that doesn't hunt, never a truer statement ever said, especially if it just sits in the gun cupboard!
Well done indeed Casper, we all hope to see some game shots of its handiwork more sooner than later!

that's what I thought John. Auction house says it's a maker's case but I don't think that it's for this rifle. That's okay as I have a Lewis .404 Jeffery that I think will fit in it.

Popular in the British trade.

For spare sight bead(s).

Nitrox: That's a long gun case.

Fitted case for a Take Down Model should be like this:

Mannlicher Schoenauer proprietary cartridges.

Unless altered, prototype M1900 and military models of Y1903, Y1903/14, Y1903/14/27,'System 1930' will be chambered for the MS proprietary cartridge of 6.5X54.

M1903 were also 6.5X54, M1905 were 9X56, M1908 were 8X56, M1910 were 9.5X57 mm.

The M1924 had longer 'action' chambered for the 'U.S. 1906 Cartridge' (.30-'06).
After M1924 the models were no longer cartridge specific.

The rifle came in the mail today. Super happy with it. It came with 5 pieces of cleaning rod in the butt instead of 4 so I have an extra piece. Case is definitely made for a non takedown rifle. I'll see if my Lewis .404 Jeffery will fit. If anyone has any brass, dies and bullets that you'd like to sell let me know. Or know of where I can find the same.

Damn strait, if a gun was built to hunt with then that's what it should be used for.

Its a case and a half! Ha ha, not really, but a few inches extra each side.

Is the little indentation in the slot to keep a sight hood in place?

John I just tried the 24" barreled 404 in the case. The case still has 4" of barrel room. Wonder if it's made for a single barrel large bore shotgun.

Casper, won't necked up 8x57 work? That is what I used in my 9.3x57, after lengthening the body the appropriate amount for my rifle.

I don't know if it will or not but I have so many different caliber rifles that I always use proper headstamped brass only. I love my fingers, eyes and rifles too much.

Check the assembled length.

'Prewar' Mannlicher Schoenauers came with either a four or five piece cleaning rod set.

4 pieces assembled is about 2 inches longer than the barrel.

Ouch.

I have ordered Qual Cart 9.5X57 from Midway previously. Presently they seem to have only 8X56 in the MS.

I believe Qual Cart does sell direct to retail customers, however.

I'd give them a call or email.
