GK 8x68S
      #330692 - 30/07/19 09:05 AM

One has to love the interweb! A slack day at work, an idle search and I found a 1963 GK 8x68S.
Complete with AKAH mounts and a Kahles Helia 39 S1 with #4 reticle.Sr55899. Overall condition is VG and the bore excellent. A load of RL19 with RWS 181 grain Kegelspitz projectiles shot a 3 shot group of 1.009".
The previous owner provided 60 new RWS cases as part of the deal. I guess some pics are in order, just as soon as I take some decent ones.
Regards
Mike.

Nice score, Mike. RWS cases are VERY strong cases in 8x68S calibre.

Daryl, I cut the base off an old RWS case as I has read that the original case specs called for thicker than usual, the wall measured 3/64" or 1.19mm.

Regards
Mike.

Damn good pick up by the way.

I would anneal all those RWS cases. The new RWS cases I had in 8X68S suffered a loss of 1 in 3 to neck splitting on first firing. After annealing, no losses.

Yes, really nice, especially being a GK which means that its not to bulky. Great cartridge as well. Looking forward to seeing the photos.

I'm just gearing up to try out my Mauser 66 in 8X68S. I discovered that none of my RCBS shell holders nor my Forster trimmer collets fit the odd ball 8X68S rim,
so I have a couple of RCBS #34 shell holders on the way and a special order collet from Forster. The cases I am loading right now are once fired ones I found on eGun, but I will anneal them just to be on the safe side.

Since I'm planning on trying my rifle out on the local white tail population, I intend to use some 175 gr. PPU bullets I have on hand, rather than something heavier and more stoutly made. In the past I have had bullets exit without expanding, for instance a 250 grain Silvertip factory load in my .358 Winchester.

Did a search on that term, and the rifles displayed are lovely. Sleek and good lines. Long barrelled and deadly looking. Can't wait for your photos as well.
