NitroExpress.Group

Announcing a new NitroExpress.group on facebook.

A facebook group is a 'page' on facebook where members can load up and share their stories, photos and ideas.

It is a new addition to our website, forums, facebook page, and now a members group.

If you are on facebook, please join the group and join in.

Don't worry, we won't be letting any emphasis go from the excellent forums and the excellent participation of the members here on the forums.

Join or visit the NitroExpress.Group

Interesting, John. A friend of mine in Idaho posted a picture on his Facebook page of a flintlock rifle he'd built. He was banned.

I am NOT sticking up for FB.. but there has to be more to that story..

I see guns displayed on BFB by gunsmiths I do business with all the time.. I am also a member on Glock's FB page.. always handguns on there..

Again, not sticking up for FB as I feel they suck..but, ???

Doubt it had anything to do with the photo of the rifle.

I have hundreds of photos on facebook. And virtually everyone I know posts photos of guns and hunting.

BTW are you still on there, or have left? I had a look for you to invite you to the group.

Interesting, John. No, I don't have a facebook account that I know of, but recently
received 2 or 3 requests for friending in my regular mail - which was not solicited.

Check it out, though and see what happens.

John, I would strongly recommend you change the group from a public group to a closed group. That way, only members of the group can see what people post. It drastically cuts down on trolls, hacking of accounts, and the FB police. Every FB gun group I'm a member of is a closed one, and we've never had any problems. Just an idea.

Cheers,
Rick

i am members of both public and closed groups.

Will probably change it to closed after an initial period.

The page NitroExpressCom has rarely had problems as well. Groups are more of a problem.

This group is just another "arm" of NitroExpress.com.

We have the fb page. Groups are taking over pages now and far more successful. Harder and more time consuming to manage, and bigger ones, move on too quickly. As such they often lack depth of discussion. And are hard to look back in. How does one look back to a discussion five years ago on facebook? Takes forever, no decent search facility. They ONLY way it will still be is, if a phone or image was loaded up with the discussion. The image or photo is kept by facebook. Not so with mere words by themselves.

The eye candy girls all like facebook. To put pictures of themselves up.

Same with pretty guns. People like looking at them. Then move on.

So facebook and facebook groups are part of it all now. Because I don't trust facebook at all, I will go with a multi platform approach.
1. Use a blog/ezine to be the core of discussions and displays of guns etc.
2. Share the article or discussion on the blog to the forums. Or copy and paste it, as now would be required. Hopefully an upgrade will allow sharing.
3. Hopefully with a few keystrokes also share the discussion, photos, article etc to SEVERAL different social media platforms, sites, pages, groups etc easily. Save a lot of work.
4.A benefit is the core stays here, under control.
5. A major benefit is the article, discussion, news item shared, when re-shared from our post keeps the pointer at NE and is not lost on sharing an news article.

The blog/ezine/forum(?) remains the core of the sites. It would be cool if such worked with the upgraded forums. But I will use a wordpress type site built around the forums anyway. The forums stay as part of it. With photo hosting in the mix somewhere as well.

By keeping the core separate, history and archives are maintained. I enjoy finding old threads and re-enjoying them again. And even some older longer members haven't seen them even once.

I will do something similar for my political pages.

We have already about 120 people joining this group in less than 24 hours.

I did invite quite a few though.

Small trickle of new posts, not by me That will grow.

I saw that there was a big response on the FB page.
Too bad they don’t join the NitroExpress forum!
I guess FB has become the one stop shop for most people’s online interactions. Too bad really as they wield too much control and influence as it is in my opinion.

Over time I have posted links on posts on facebook. Get lots of visitors to the forums, but few visitors from there joining up.

When one is addicted to crack cocaine, a fine cigar, or a great whiskey or cognac will no longer satisfy ...

True also the ownership and management of facebook is vile. Increasingly censorship and mind control will occur with legitimate free speech more and more being considered "thought control". Becoming firmer another organ of the fake news networks.

So a good reason for multi platform systems. On mainstream platforms, subject to thought control and censorship, to lesser ones, and of course the core being firmly under our own control.

One defect in multi platform posts is follow-up on the subsidiary platforms is too time consuming and too much work. So will be little 'management'. But if one chooses a 5 second attention span platform, that is what one gets ...

Facebook does give access to a varied group and some industry people not or only occasionally directly available here on NE.

So multi platform will work. As long as all the good guys keep staying on the forums!

I've got to make the forums easier to use. For example loading photos and images. And especially easier to read on tablets and especially smart phones.

I think a lot of users use these far more than PCs and laptops. So the forums need to be easily used on phones and tablets.

I ONLY use a laptop for NE, facebook, etc etc. So am an old curmedgeon when it comes to these devices. My phone I use for phone calls, texts, and my diary and contacts. Weather reports, and sometimes news when bored waiting somewhere ...

Agree would help..

When I am on the road I read and check NE all the time.. enjoyable..
if truth be told, I read it while having coffee and breakfast at the local restaurant every morning.. good way to start the day.. well, one of them..
