Need dies and brass - 9.5x57 and 8x56 M-S
      #302205 - 22/06/17 07:26 PM

I am going to need reloading dies for these cartridges and also brass. Any tips where to source them or do you have any for sale?

9.5x57mm Mannlicher-Schoenauer

8x56mm Mannlicher-Schoenauer

I have been told this 8mm which is nominally a .323" whoots .325" projectiles better.

So any ideas of who make .325" projectiles and where to source them?

Thanks.

Anyone know if Bertram makes brass for these cartridges?

I know I have some 8x56mm Rimmed Hungarian brass from him. But looking for the rimless Mannlicheer-Schoenauer case.

What is the brass case the 8x56 MS made from? Can it be made from other brass?

I know the 9.5x57 can be made from .30-06 family brass.

9.5x57 MS dies are available from CH4D dies. Brass is available from Bertram with both 9.5x57 MS and 375 NE headstamps. Brass can also be formed from 8x57, 9.3x57 but will end up 1mm short, or 30-06, 35 Whelen or 9.3x62 which will end up the correct length after trimming. Brass is also available from Horneber in Germany.

8x56 MS brass is available form Horneber, SHM and Quality Cartridge Company. Dies from CH4D and brass can be made from 8x57IS. You won't know what bullet to use for sure until you slug the bore, it should be .323"

I have been told the bore prefers .325 not .323".

Thanks for the reply and information.

You may want to check out Buffalo Arms (www.buffaloarms.com). They show that they have die sets for both 8x56 M-S and 9.5x57 M-S in stock. 8x56 M-S is $86.87, brand is 4D; 9.5x57 M-S is $86.87 for 4D and $145.66 for RCBS.
They show brass in stock 8x56 $1.47 per case and 9.5x57 is $1.91 per case. The more you buy the cost per case goes down.
No .325 bullets; they have the usual suspects: .323, .327, and .329.
They do ship to Aus and N.z.

I have bought dies and loaded ammo for 8x56 M-S from them, worked great.

Having had some bad luck with some dies in the recent past, which dies brand(s) are the best to choose? When there is a choice. Thanks.

I use Hornady dies (inc. 9.3x57 & 9.3x62) in a variety of calibres now, along with Lee dies. I prefer the Hornady dies to all. they are also exceptional for necking up cases due to the longer, extremely hard & smooth tapered expander in the neck and FL sizing dies.

I do have some old RCBS dies, but as normal, they oversize cases.

I guess mine were made with reamers that should have been thrown in the garbage, but that is not like RCBS, who continues to turn out undersized dies, that oversize cases and reduce case life along with promoting stuck cases.

I use brand new 8x57 R-P brass for forming my bro's 9.3x57 cases.

I have dies I purchased in 1990 or so from RCBS for my MS1910. Those, with fresh .35 Whelen brass (trimmed to length) and Hornady 3715 netted dimensional duplicates of DWM 531.

Watch Midway (midwayusa.com) for specials on 'factory seconds'. I bought 400 'second' 270 grain RN from them a year or so ago and I'm sure they are Hornady 3715.

They only have 300 grain RN now, but they do list Woodleigh Weldcore (out of stock) and fresh Kynoch 9.5X57 stuffed with same (available) at a mere $41.99 (USD) per box of five.
