Mannlicher Schoenauer RG 35 in Alfa Catalog Model 1911?
      #291715 - 10/12/16 01:25 AM

In perusing the Alfa Catalog that Lancaster so kindly posted, I saw the illustration and description of a M-S rifle chambered in 5.6x35. It is on pare 337, and is listed as RG 35. It may be the Model 1911, although that is not clear to me. The cartridge appears to be a rimless version of the 5.6x35R Vierling, aka. .22 Win CF.

The rifle has a 3/4 length stock similar to an African model Mauser, and weighs 2 Kg. It appears to have a miniature action, although this may not be correct. Does anyone have additional information about this intriguing rifle and cartridge combination?

sorry, I believe this bases on some misunderstanding's

its over the MS rifles but called "Mauser Model 1911"

imho, this was a rifle with a scaled down Mauser 71 action and a box magazine by a small Suhl/Zella Mehlis gunmaker.

because the Mauser 71 is the grat grandfather of the Mannlicher Schönauer anyone not familar with this could think its the same thing

I have problems with the 5,6x35

the only cartridge possible for me would be the 5,6x33 Dreyse so maybe a mistake

Interesting. You can see why I was confused. It is logical that this entire rifle/cartridge combination was a RM&M (Dreyse) product. As Lancaster says, these rifles are similar to the M71 Mauser, and were often marketed as "Mauser" rifles.

The cartridge catalog illustration raises another question: What is the Model 88 6.6 cartridge illustrated? I can't seem to find one in my literature.

last question first: 6.6/88 is an old designation for the common 6,5x57
every case coming from the 8x57I case aka Model 88 was a x,x/model 88 than. notice the 7x57 is not a M 88 but a Model 93 because th 7x57 developt for the spanisch model 93 was a case by its own.

most dont know that the 7x57 case have a bigger base than the 8x57.

in 1911 Dreyse became Rheinmetall Sömmerda or RMS but "Dreyse" was still used as brand. I dont think that RMS was the maker of this little Mauser or "Mauserlein" but see some smaller firm in Suhl- Zella-Mehlis as the maker. have never seen this rifle before but it would be a a nice small bore rifle, no doubt.
RMS "Dreyse" made in this times only the Model 1907 Pistol and the semi auto carbine
