165gr. was a standard weight. The only 168gr. for years, were matchkings.

U know I think I got some match kings somewhere but seeing that I only hornady 150s fmj bts I guess I should order a box of 165s.

For lower velocity .308's, the Sierra 165gr. HP hunting bullet is a very good bullet - to about 2,550fps, for deer, hogs, etc.

I'd go with the 165gr. CoreLoks, Hot Core Speers or InterLoks or Interbonds or Federal Fusions for an '06.

They will all work for the .308 as well.

Probably the best of the premiums in 165gr. now, is the TSX or TTSX - for any .308 calibre.

If shooting .308 Win. I'd go with the 150TSX for everything.

I guess my plan is to somewhat replicate the load that the sight blades were filed to.i figured in 1960 or so it would have been sighted in with 165 to 180grs at a moderate speed probably normas

Check your twist. My M-1952 which was made in 1957 has a 1 in 10 inch twist. It is a 30-06. It shoots the irons to point of aim with 220 grain coreloks.
