Bought my First Mannlicher Schoenauer!
      #260046 - 06/02/15 08:21 PM

Well, the GCA are rubbish as a support group (see the "No Name Steyr M1892" thread), and made me want to get another rifle. Well, I've actually been working out the finer parts of the deal for the last week, payment made yesterday, rifle given to the dealer to post today. Should have it by the end of the month.

It's a M1910 in 9.5x57. Features are takedown, and the flip up tang peep sight. It's got a broken front sight, but i'm hoping the spare is still in the grip cap. If not, anyone want to sell me theirs? I think the rear sights have been opened a bit too, which works for me as my eyes aren't the best.
It'll be getting a new recoil pad. I haven't seen really any of the barrel markings but will upload all pictures of it i have, including the ones from it's for sale ad.

Serial Number is 10354, what year is this?

Seller said the last time he used it was in 1995 on a Kudu @ 150 yards. He brought it over from Swaziland. His grandfather bought it, then it was his dads, then his, now mine

I paid $1600AUD posted to here ($1250 US), is this a fair price? It's the lowest i've seen one, there doesnt seem to be any cracks in the wood.

Very nice Ash. I can't wait to get my 1903 MS carbine, 6.5x54. I just have to wait until April to go collect it.
With the help of our mutual support group, GCA, I'm sure I will get thru the waiting time without too many other purchases.
Hope you enjoy your new acquisition and post your results.

Your first MS too, Iowa_303? If so, congratulations, if not, congratulations on your purchase

I think GCA does more harm than good

I'll post pics when i get it, and when it shoots something, even if it is just another fox like the Certus got

Thanks Lancaster, your turn to get one

Yes, its my first also!

I know GCA does more harm than good!

I originally thought your Certus was a bit of overkill for the fox but then I remembered there is no such thing as "too dead" for a fox (or coyote, or wolf).

I'm looking foward I seeing pictures of yours.

It sure does, I'm already wondering what to buy next! And I've given myself a 3 gun limit this year (to buy). Couple I can think of.. Snider or martini sporter, maybe a lee speed?? Unsure!

Heh; well, if you can, why not? I'm holding hopes of getting a pig with it some day.

You will find the year of proof besides the NPv proofmark on the barrel, usually covered by the wood. My own M1910, serial number 11400, is marked 37. there, so it was made in 1937. Steyr numbered all their models in seperate serial number ranges, each model starting with #1. My own 1910 in 9.5x57 aka .375 rimless NE was discussed in this thread:

Looks like a nice all original rifle and has never had a scope on it. It will be hard to stop at just one.

Ash,
Here is a full box of Kynoch ammo from my collection.
Notice the price hand written on the face of the label.
It cost me nothing. Friend gave it to me a few years ago.

I collect all kind of things from vintage watches to records and there's nothing like nice Mannlicher Schoenauer rifles. I say if you can find them and they are priced fairly buy them if you have the money. I think they are not only the nicest rifles ever made but an excellent investment that you can actually use. I have a very good friend who has around two hundred of them. You'll see what I'm talking about when you get yours.

Here's three of mine.

Top: Model 1952 caliber 9.3x62 Super Deluxe made in 1955 never had a scope on it.
Middle: Model 1950 caliber 7x64 made in 1950 has the factory Kahles scope and claw mount. The recoil pad was on it when I bought it.
Bottom: Model MC caliber 280 made in 1961 has factory scope mount.
