New to me 1903 6.5x54MS Carbine
      #258945 - 12/01/15 05:56 AM

Thanks for the add! Just received my dream rifle and joined the form. Lots of great information and have ordered bullets and casing to work up some hand loads. The rifle is like new and has 99% orgional finish and was not shot much. The bolt head around the firing pin has no marks. The wood has normal dings and scraps for a 95 year old rifle Checkering is like new.

Thank you Will, that is very nice!
I really like the clean lines of the 1903's.

Very beautiful rifle! Well done, I'm thinking about picking one up at the local gunstore but its original stock is long gone.
Its now wearing a "fajen american stock" And I'm pretty sure it would be impossible to find a correct replacement one, but it still has double triggers and is dated 1905 or 1903.

Thanks Guys! I have always wanted an 03 MS and lucked upon this one. It's a WWII GI bring back. It has been stored with grease packed in the barrel and bolt that had turned as hard as wax. The GI aquired it in "Germany" in 1944. I bought it from his son after his fathers passing.

Will,
That is a wonderful 1903! I have owned several and still have two of these great rifles. They are a pure joy to carry in the field. You are also lucky that the front scope mount was installed on a boss around the barrel..........most were dovetailed into the front receiver ring. Speed states in his Mauser book that the engineers said this did not substantially weaken the front ring; however, I dislike the look of it very much and prefer the mount system on your rifle. Ringmounts are out there, just may be a little hard to find a good set. Of all the MS series, the 1903 is by far my pick. I love the mild old round that shoots through everything and generally kills as well or better than some of the real hard kickers. Yours deserves to be lovingly carried into the field as that is what it was made for....failing to do so is much like training a good bird dog and locking him in the kennel for life.

John

Excellent addition to any collection and a nice Christmas present for yourself. Can't wait to get mine now and hope that it is as nice as yours. :-)
