Response to topic missing.
      #247260 - 10/05/14 04:30 AM

Yesterday I posted a response to a forum subject about an A&M Brevex magnum rifle requesting more information about the A&M Rifle Co. I responded to this as I knew them. Today the entry is missing from the forum,in fact there seems maybe there were 2 pages yesterday but today only one or am I losing what little of my mind I thought I had control of.

I too have seen some of my responses disappear into thin air.

Nothing has been deleted. If it didn't post, it was done incorrectly.

I've not deleted any posts for quite a while.

A key when posting is whether the "your topic has been posted" (or whatever it actually says) screen appears when posting. If this isn't seen, it didn't post. It has never happened to me, but I assume if you loose connection when posting the data could be lost.

Possibilities on how a post could be done incorrectly include:

- Posting as a preview and never finalising the post. Perhaps using a back button, closing a tab window, or selecting another menu item and leaving a preview page without ever finalising the post preview.

- Posting usually a new topic without including the subject title. The post is rejected and using a back button returns you to the original screen to fix up the subject title. I have done this many times in the past, finding my post/thread missing, and finding out, I never finalised the post so it never actually posted.

Probably other user errors are possible. The admins and moderators rarely delete anything or edit/censor anything.

The last posts I deleted and no others for a long time, other than classified ads or other posts where the user as asked for some help. the last deletes otherwise were the troll dickheads that turned up to start fights.

Another user problem can occur where you have multiple tabs open on the same topic. Especially if you are editing the same post on two or more tabs simultaneously. If you edit one tab and edit another, the last edit posted may over-write the previous edit removing any of those changes.

When I post a thread with multiple pages, and order and change photos, descriptions and comments, I have done this myself more than once. So a disciplined editing process is needed, and re-editing as needed.

Back to the original posters comment, if the sending of data had not gone through and the user without realising stopped his internet connection, it certainly would fail to update the forum database.
