Old DWM Cartridge in 9.5M/S, rare?
      #246898 - 03/05/14 08:53 AM

I just aquired three cartons of original Kynoch 9,5M/S cartridges. Or so I thought. There was one cartridge that didn't fit in with the rest of the bunch. It's a DWM cartridge, with what looks like a steel/nickel jacketed bullet, shaped somewhat different from the Kynoch bullets.
I've been using my google-fu all night trying to find some information on these, and from the headstamp I have determined that most likely the cartridge was manufactured in 1929, and it is indeed a 9,5M/S cartridge.
Other than that, I found a lot of information on a variety of DWM cartridges, but not much at all about them in this specific caliber.
Are these cartridges rare, and does anyone know how long were they produced? Do they differ from the Kynoch cartridges in any significant way?
Just curious since I didn't know these existed until tonight. Anyone?

I have a similar cartridge, headstamp: K DWM K 531

As the cartridge came "from the continent", it was certainly not only used and loaded in Britain.

Not rare at all, more often found in Germany than Kynoch loads!
Both DWM and RWS (same load) offered the 9.5x57 M-Sch aka .375 Rimless NE up to WW2:
17.6g = 272gr bullet in front of 3.25g = 50gr R5 powder for 655m/sec = 2150fps mv(60cm = 24" barrel).

In addition, respectfully, to Kuduae's answer regarding your 'DWM 531' cartridge:

DWM = Deutsche Waffen und Munitionsfabriken - The manufacturer

K = Karlsrhue -The city in Baden- Wurttemberg where the factory was located

531 = The DWM catalog number for 9.5x57* (.375 Nitro Express Rimless).

*My original boxes of DWM 531 are marked 9.5x56 on the box label.
