This seems to be a crazy price...Isn't it at least three times the highest price anyone would pay?

The seller is obviously intent on emphasizing the collector value of the rifle, but he fails to realize or acknowledge that the collector value pretty much disappeared with the installation of the Niedner side mount and Lyman Alaskan scope. He may find a buyer who feels otherwise, but I seriously doubt it.

Even if it wasn't drilled and tapped and the stock cut away for the scope mount, or in any way altered...It still would only be worth (at the most) one third of his starting bid. I may be wrong about that, but I don't see it as having great value. His analysis of the low serial numbers, rarity "one of 500", etc...seems largely bogus. But a person is free to ask whatever he wants for a firearm. Its not the only crazy price I have seen for a gun. Old military bolt action rifles have risen significantly in the last decade. Asking prices for these are now getting to ridiculous levels.

That's 6 times what I just paid for mine. Mine is not as nice as that one but it's not bad. I don't suppose he'd part out that receiver sight to me.

Horses for courses really. It's perhaps the best iteration of the MS series but the "for the trade" labelling detracts somewhat. In the US it may be another matter. Now if it were in 10.75 x 68!

This is the Model 1924, also called the "Sequoia model". After WW1 the Steyr factory made a contract with the American importer Sequoia for 1000 such rifles in 30-06. Apparently the deal fell through, as no serial numbers markedly above 500 are known. So 327 is not a low number, but a high one for this model, mine is 299. Not all 500 rifles made it to the USA, several remaining in stock at the Steyr factory. For some years Steyr offered them at a 10% discount, together with the Mod. 1925 in 7x64 and 8x60.
The M24 was the first Mannlicher-Schoenauer model made for a non-proprietary, longer cartridge. As such it was the first with a cartridge guide ring inside the magazine that hold the cartridges close to the rotating magazine follower. But, other than in the later M-Sch actions from the M1925 on, this guide ring is around the bullets instead of the case necks.
Distinguishing features of the M24 from the later M25, that was also offered in 30-06, 9.3x62, 10.75x68 and other chamberings in due time:
The foreend is a bit shorter in front of the stirrup sling swivel (missing on this rifle). The M1924s all have this unique "express" rear sight with 3 folding leaves and no standing. The M25 reverted to the usual M-Sch rear sight with one standing and one folding leaf. The open rear sight is the the easiest to spot feature to distinguish a M-Sch .30-06 M24 from a M25.

The aftermarket Niedner side mount is not the only fault of the rifle offered on gunbroker. The original stirrup sling swivel is missing, replaced with a common one screwed into the wood. On the plus side, it has the rare factory option tang peep sight.
Here is (again) my M24 #299. It apparently never left Europe. Some years ago it came to me with the then factory optional Kahles "Heliavier" scope mounted with Vienna - style snap mounts. The mount too is 299 numbered to the rifle. As the professional dealer had mislabelled it on an egun internet auction, it set me back Euro 320.-, about US$ 430.-, including shipping.

It seems that many of that model came north. You see the 1924 "Sequoia" 30-06 model relatively often in Western Canada, and collectors do pay a premium for them, but not $6,000!! That's more than three times the very highest price I have ever seen for one, and that was for a very clean, completely unaltered collector-grade example.

I've been looking for a Sequoia for quite some time. If anyone knows of another for sale, please let me know. That said, yes, that is a way high price, and this isn't the first time I've seen that rifle listed. Same photos, same price, no one ever bids. The story I tell myself is that he promised his wife he would put it up for sale, but he doesn't really want to part with it. I think that's a kinder thought than believing he really thinks that's the value.

Kuduae, if you paid 320 euro, would you accept 500 for it right now? I know, that's silly. But you can't really blame someone for trying, can you?http://forums.nitroexpress.com/images/icons/blush.gif

The Model 1924 Sequoia 30-06 is relatively available in Canada. In the last month I was aware of three for sale...one in excellent condition, one in good condition and one was a parts gun. If you can handle importation into the USA you may wish to advertise for a Sequoia in Canada (see free firearms advertising website below). In general, M-S prices are lower in Canada than in the USA.

Itīs better you buy in Sweden. Every old rifle go outside because that we are not allowed to have more than 6 rifles. Every rifle store have so many Husqvarna 46, 146 and other European rifles etc. no one wanīt to buy.

Sville - that is probably why tradeexcanada has so many 46's and 146's & Husky 98's in stock and already sold many hundreds of them here, coast to coast. $225.00 to just over $300.00 cdn.

Could always send that nasty "parts gun" to me, rpeck - I'd give it a good home - it's calibre is not important.

Thats exactly why Tradex has all those Swedish beaters...

I don't own the 1924 Sequoia 30-06 parts gun...it belongs to a trapper in the Yukon. If you want to make him an offer for it, just send me your email address and I'll give you his contact info.

Nothing against Husqvarna. I collected Husqvarna sporting rifles and shotguns, even some handguns for about twenty years and then disposed of the collection about ten years ago except for one rifle: a lightweight fullstock HVA, as new, in the original box. Huskies are good guns, but are not in the same league with Mannlicher-Schoenauers.
