good news from Punxsutawney, the groundhog got a new rifle from his buddy so it can now sleep

no, not realy, I got a new rifle
its a hungarian made Mannlicher Gewehr 98/40 in 8x57IS

after the war sporterized in germany

I love the quality of the scope mounts you only find in the fatherland

the bolt cock on closing like the swedish mauser rifle

german civilian proof over the old wehrmacht eagel+swastika stamp

to open the floorplate you have to push the lever with the tip of a spitzer bullet

here it comes

the claw mount base is in the receiver, common believe today is that such rifles are dangerous and not worth the money..
I dont care about it

from "Mauser: Original Oberndorf Sporting Rifles"

a little comparison with the DWM Vergueiro M 1904, another Mannlicher with a Mauser magazin

bolt's
G 98/40
Vergueiro
Mannlicher M 92
M 88

G 98/40 and M 92 bolt

the M 88 bolt in the 98/40

the M 92 bolt

the Vegueiro bolt

family, M 88, M92, Vergueiro and G 98/40
