The Dutch used wooden covers on some of their M95's. Wonder if this is where thy got the idea?

Right on, Brit. Smith and Smith shows a number but covered only on the left side that bore against the saddle scabbard, IIRC.

I like this rifle, but then, I find I like pretty much anything Teutonic in gun and knife hardware, even to the Baroque...

Beautiful rifle...so much more interesting than the minty, nearly unfired examples.

Fellow I worked for, had a very similar rifle in 6.5x54 Mauser which shot a 119gr. bullet, I think it was, at about 2,350fps.IIRC. Nice little deer rifle, I assume designed for Roe Deer and Chamois?
