This is not my rifle and I don't know the seller. I just noticed this rare offering and thought I would alert the forum:

Wow, bidding is brisk on this rifle. Just over half way through the auction there are 13 bids with the current bid at $3,625.00.

It will be interesting to see how far it goes.

Curl, what was the biggest calibres the "original" manlichers, i.e. those made up to 1930, were chambered for ? thx, Mike

I have seen those REdfield MS scope bases go for $700 by themselves.

Wow, I have never seen them sell for more than $150. They're pretty awkward and block the iron sights. Here is a set with a low opening bid.

I must be missing something on this rifle. I've seen nicer .458's trade hands for $2.5-3K. Does this one come with $6k worth of gold dust stuffed in the barrel?

This is really soaring! $9,020.00 with more than a day to go with the auction. Will it go higher?

KurtC, if you know of these trading at $2.5-3K I suggest you round them up and list them on GB for a handsome profit.

Could it be this rifle was owned by Elvis?

The biggest pre WWII caliber in a M-S was the 10.75x68, I owned one back in the 1970s and sold it because I could find no ammo source here in the USA. Have seen two more in the US since then. Meanwhile, they seem to be out there in Europe and Australia, per online sources.

The .458 Mag version of the Magnum Model Mannlicher-Schoenauer was made 1959-1968. No quantities available, however, I do remember a time maybe 10 years ago when the .458s and .264s were real drags on the market. Now a fellow Mannlicher collector has scored the highest price I have ever seen for any M-S in the current online auction. I will be hunting with him in June.
