Mannlicher schoenauer load development
      #100960 - 31/03/08 12:35 PM

I recently purchased my first mannlicher schoenauer, a high velocity sporter chambered in 30-06. This rifle has a 23.5 inch barrel and express sights. I was wondering if anyone knew what bullet weight and velocity the express sights would have been regulated for at the factory? Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers
Simon

Simon, welcome to the site.

Being a 30'06, I would presume that this is a post 1952 model such as MCA. If so, it should be capable of taking modern ammo. There should be no problem using factory ammo or reloads from SAMI spec data. I was not aware that bolt rifles in the 1950s were regulated in the factory for open sights.

Acutally it is proofed 1929, and doesnt have the swept back bolt or anything. The caliber is marked 7.62x63, not 30-06. What kind of pressures should I limit myself to?

Best check out http://discover-net.net/~kanotex/mannlicher/. Some very knowledgeable Mannlicher collectors including a guy with all the pre-war serial no database that the Styre factory now uses for reference etc.
