I bought this one from Mick's Guns. Description follow: •375 Exp bolt action rifle by Osterr Waffenfabr - Ges Steyr "Mannlicher Schoenauer" with retailer name of Westley Richards & Co London engraved on its 24" barrel. It has a 4 round integral magazine, a 3 leaf express sight out to 500 yards, the bore really is very good, and the walnut stock has some bruising.

Congratulations, you lucky devil! May you enjoy many decades of hunting and shooting with that magnificent rifle! Thank you for sharing pictures. The "bruising" is what most would consider character marks. Now, if only your rifle could speak . . .

Yes it is. It's also known as .375 Rimless express and 9.5x56 MS I believe. Nothing like making things confusing.

I believe that Mannlicher called it the 9.5x56 and it was Mauser that used the 9.5x57 designation. Or that was what I was told when I had a Mauser 98 actioned sporting rifle in this cartridge. The drawing that Peter Labbatt sent me whne I was trying to find out about my rifles is dated 19th March 1908 and is of the Westley Richards .375 Bore cartridge. This drawing is from Eley bros and it says traced from WR drawing received 17th Feb 1908. Will have ti see if I can work out how t scan to file then post it here.
If not I will just have to photograph it.
Nice find BTW I am not green at all .................................. nope not a bit.
