Terrific pictures. You handled the light really well. Gives me something to drool over while I wait for my rifle to be built and sent to me in Australia

Another great sequence, Mouse!

Are you the lefty shooter? I see the palm swell on the left side and a cheekpiece on the right.

Guys any idea why the factory left that wedge between barrels uncut? It gives me kreeps to imagine knocking on something with it - I guess regulation would go south? Should I have it cut off and polish the snout?

It's not at all unusual for the Germans and Austrians to leave the wedge protruding a bit. I suppose it's a matter of style. Do not tamper with it. Here's a Merkel 323E done the same way, but in O/U configuration:

Gunmakers tradition, I think. On my FN-Browning, it's still more pronounced.

Same on my Miroku OU in 9,3x74R. Leave it as it is and unless you will use your gun as a chissel, you won't have problems with it.

I believe the Chapuis uses the same treatment also. Any Chapuis owners want to chime in?

93mouse,

Very, very nice! A rifle that is all business and which has proved itself admirably from the deer pics.

Congratulations and thanks for posting!

**Pure speculation on my part,, but could it be to protect the crowns on the end of the barrels?/

It would appear this would help --again only guessing--my .470 Merkel had the same thing..

I just checked and my Chapuis 9.3X74R has the wedge showing. But the others are flush. They include 2 Austrian 9.3X72R's a Pedersoli 9.3X74R an ASTAR 45-70 and a Lyell 500BPE.
Any others with vintage DR's care to speak up?
