S&W Triplelock Target
      #53167 - 23/03/06 03:54 PM

This is a Triplelock Target in 44 Special. It still has its original grips; the serial number is penciled onto the back of the grip.. The Triplelock was the beginning of the wonderful N-frame family that eventually was to include the Registered Magnum and the Model 29.

This example was shipped from S&W on January 1, 1918; it was shipped to Shapleigh Hardware in St. Louis, Missouri. It has not been particularly abused in its life, but it has been neglected. The bore is shiney with the exception of some pits. It is a good shooter with proper lead bullets. The fit and finish of these early revolvers was first rate.

Also pictured are two other classics: a Filson Cruiser and a Lawrence rig.

Yes they are nice hardware indeed. I have a 2nd Model Hand-Ejector chambered for the .455 Webley cartridge, also with original grips. Love it a lot, though they are obviously built for shooters with small hands as my trigger-finger protrudes a looong way through the guard!

Great photo too!

Beautiful example of the world's finest double action revolver made. And it is in the right caliber too.

500 is a nice round number, either followed by "Nitro Express" or by "cubic inch displacement".
