yes, was Jørgen
we were watching the time goes by and drink the so called "brown water".
was a very relaxed holiday and a little bit like waiting for the next bus into nirwana!

we visiting Arne Holgersen who had allways a nice stockpile of old guns and gun parts. he have also the 4 ga. pinfire fowler and I try every day to put this idea out of my mind.

it was a real pleasure to see the small game on Fyn. in other places it dont have any lobby anymore and like a hunter with passion for the small game was saying here " if they would care for the small game like they care about wolves now there will be something possible".
its all about agriculture and capitalism and there is no place for patridge, hare and pheasant anymore.its a little wonder they are not completly eradicted.

Jørgen send me pics from his new aquisition a Model 38 SN 380 in 6,5x58R

he was behind this stutzen since 1977 so not only readyness is all but patience is also all for a hunter!

the 6,5x58R is a 8x58RD necked down in the 1930s to copy the 6,5x55 in the Krag action

the bolt have little differences against the later M 42

thanks to the useless internet this rifle became no more known than ever before
live on forgotten weapons
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klgfB78vUuM

see the idea of a danish handloader who was making the hard to find 8x58RD case by using 300 Win Mag brass what is a good idea also if it not was my own.
knowing I had a bag with 300 win mag brass in the basement somewhere start to looking for. was known to put this brass on a good place once where I can find it easily when in need. well I find such things like 5,6x52R brass but not this stuff. so a case from my case sample collection had to bit the bullet for a test.

belt turn down and 12,98mm case body tapered to 12,70 mm over the rim, anealed

full length resized

cut down and loaded with .310 bullet for functional testing

the inventor was writing he use this brass in a swedish rolling block and it works fine. in the schultz&larsen the cartridge was loaded and extracted without any problem. but ... original rim diameter is 14,8mm and this one have 13,4mm so the extractor grip the case but when reaching the ejector its just enough touch to lose it from the bolt. so the case laying in the receiver you have to turn the rifle to the left and it falls out.
meaning you dont have to look for your brass after.

the 300 Win mag case with its sharp shoulder is allways a challenge. when making a bigger lot I will start with a 11,15x60R and a 9,3x53R die before it get full resizing with the 8x58RD die.

fox can allways come [Re: lancaster]
      #301175 - 02/06/17 04:57 PM

waiting for a special buck I find the meadow moved this morning for making hay.

roedeer was out but not MY buck

two higly protected crane familys were out for breakfast and because the hunter is the real and original conservationist ( the greens steal also our own colour to name themself)I had an eye open to protect the chicks.

we say here a fox can allways come and he came, first game take with the S&L.

this early summer foxes just losing the winter coat looking allways like tramps

I am sure he would get a bloody nose when trying this in the open landscape. the cranes will fighting like devils for the chicken!
last spring I shoot a fox just 20 meter away from this place when he came along and stand before two adult cranes with an empty stomach and while he was thinking if there was a chance for him I take mine.
but yes, it would be interesting to see such a fight.

btw, the other side of the fox looks not so good with the 150 grains softpoint from the 8x58RD

believe it or not but 1000 meter over the hill is a six lane autobahn, europe can be very closely sometimes.

Well done Lancaster. Enjoyed your fox story and photos. I love fox hunting. Winter is here now and a couple of nights ago hit -2 C. Perfect for fox hunting.

Well done on the lovely roebuck as well. Brilliant beast and no doubt good eating. Unfortunately none of these in my hills, only enjoyable foxes.

Waidmannsheil. Good stuff.

Waidmannsdank

its an old one being over his peak in live. the antlers going down now year after year until they will be only long thin spears so it was just the right moment to get him.

I am very satisfied with this trophy,it was the right one for bleeding the Schultz & Larsen rifle.
