If this isn't the venue, I apologize ahead of time. Once in a while I get lucky at a gun show. RWS Diana 34 .177 cal. I paid $100US. It was dirty on the outside, but the bore was excellent. I cleaned it up and it's a tack driver. I used to own a Beeman/Weirauch but lost it in an accident. Didn't think I'd miss having an air-rifle. It gives me a good opportunity to stay sharp in the long winter months up here. When I don't shoot squirrels or ermine, I can set up a 10meter target in my basement and practice. Hope it doesn't offend anyone. It's not much for African big five, but I was pretty tickled and wanted to gloat. Norman4

Nice write up & pic's, you may be under gunned on Stoats & Weasels with the .177 ?

I brought home three nice puukkos for back-up. Just in case I need to stop a charge. Couldn't find a forum to finagle them into.

The 34's are good rifles for "springers" - well done.

The high power .177's do just fine. I used my .177 HW 97 and .22 HW 98 for gophers to 55 yards the last 2 years. The .177 was easier than the .22 due to the larger, heavier pellet's excessive drop past 25 yards.

These guns of mine are only 14.5fpe. In England the normal limit is 12fpe. My .22 cal. PCP runs 25fpe, much better for the longer ranges, of course.

A good working springer is nice as you do not have to carry an air 'supply' with you if you want to take more than 20 or so shots. Just cock, load and shoot.

I owned an HW25. A small gun made only for plinking really. I could put 10 shots under a nickel at 15 feet. Off hand. Incredibly accurate little gun. Not much of a game gun for anything bigger than mice. I owned a Walther made in Spain in .25. It was a killer, but it was way too long and cumbersome. One of the biggest problems with some of the better air rifles is their lack of portability for hunting. Not all. But many. I wished this were a .22, but beggars can't be choosers. It's accurate and will do the job for what I require. And it's a joy to carry! May scope it sometime. My eyes aren't what they used to be, but that detracts from the carry-a-bility thing. Besides that, I found that most adjustable objective air rifle scopes required a good shooting stand if you wanted time to fiddle and focus. Not exactly good for running game. The way .22 ammo has been lately regarding price and availability, I can also shoot this all day for just a few dollars. Very efficient practice. My Father demanded that we never own a "BB" gun. We would learn to shoot a real rifle and respect it, but I think there is a place for teaching young shooters with an air-rifle. Norman4

for indoor target shooting the airgun is the better way
anyone ever shoot a box of .22 lr Z cartridges in a room without ventilation knows what I mean.

I may have put this up before but I use this in the garden, it works a treat, shoots a 25 grain Bisley magnum .22 pellet at about 900 fps and is accurate beyond words. I must confess my favourite air rifle was one that I parted with many years ago (fool Mike ) and that was a BSF 55 Bavaria, Iīd love to find a good one of those for sale.

I can see the quality in your rifle Mike, but I'm not familiar with the brand. What is it? Is that a magazine under the scope? What does it weigh?

Daryl, I love the Beeman/HW rifles. I'm no expert, but they seem to make the finest spring rifles I have encountered. I have shot a 97 and thought it might be the ultimate spring air rifle. I'd love to know of any others that are any better.

I am sorry for only having vintage stuff, live is to short
a post war .177 Haenel with second custum made .22 barrel, īpre war Zeiss Zielvier on claw mount

Norman, I-too like the RWS/HW and FWB springers, however they all make superb PCP's as well. The Weirauch and AirArms PCP's are superb, as are Air Arms springers like the 200TX, I think it is.
I have a Feinwerkbau (FWB) 150 Tyrolean match rifle- side cocking, recoiless that is an amazing shooter. Tyrolean means it has a cupped cheek piece, which is no longer allowed in competitions. I scoped it and used it for a season shooting indoor moving game machine. With the scope fixed at 4X, it won every time. Nice rifle especially with RWS S10 match pellets.
The 10m target was the first time I shot it indoors- sighting in and practice.



This target was testing pellets indoors- 10 meters standing- hunting support as the back position was just too painful to maintain. The rifle seemed to like this position.

Lancaster. The harpoon guns are interesting, and the photos you provide to the forum are amazing. But a Haenel switch barrel air rifle with express sights, claw mounts and a Zeis scope! I bow before your awesomeness. Norman4

Daryl. I am showing some of my ignorance on the subject. I haven't tried a Feinwerkbau, and I've heard they are excellent. Obviously so from the targets you've posted. Any I have seen have been prohibitively expensive for my pocketbook. Maybe I can get lucky next year and find one of those for a hundred bucks at the gun show. I knew Air Arms made high quality pcp guns, and have a friend who owns one. It has a piece of wood to die for in the buttstock. Gorgeous gun, and it shoots. I did NOT know they made springer guns! A springer with claw mounts - that is something else! Tks Lancaster - I had no idea this was done.

Here's one outfit that has the Air Arms springers.

Beech stock almost $700.00. Walnust stocked - $100.00 more.

Thanks for sharing the link Mike. I'm not familiar with Daystate. Amazing technology! Looks like they take the air-rifle as far as it will go. Wonder if they import to US? Bet they're relatively expensive. Nice hunting rifles. 7 and 3/4 pounds is a very manageable gun. Do you like the low powered scope? I take it pcp's don't have recoil issues obviously. You guys are starting to give me the fever for a compressed air rifle.
Daryl, the Air arms rifles are gorgeous. Certainly competitively priced. They all seem expensive to me! From what little I know of Feinwerkbau, you couldn't buy that rifle new for that kind of money. Nice gun.
The accuracy a good air rifle is capable of is what I love about them.
