Recoil Pads

Howdy every one.
A quick one. I tore the ligament in my shoulder a few years back. I can now shoot rifle again, but it takes about a month to get over it. Just love the 375HH to much.
Is there anything out in the world I can use to tame the recoil a bit. Any idea's would be good.
Stop shooting is not a option.

Mate, probably not what you want to hear, but the best way to tame recoil is to increase rifle weight. It is possible to add weight temporarily, inserting lead inside a hollowed-out buttstock or barrel-channel.

Apart from this, a thick sorbothane recoil-pad is essential. The best ones are the pommie 'Absorb-all', but not sure whether they're still imported. Second-best is probably the Pachmayer 'Old English' pad as thick as you can buy.

After this, we get to magna-porting, which really works but is a two-edged sword: the increased muzzle-blast will deafen you if discharged without ear-muffs. Mercury recoil-reducers can also be added to the hollowed-out buttstock, they add weight too and apparently work OK.

For range shooting, PAST make a sorbothane pad to stick inside your shirt, a web-search will turn up the details.

That's about it I reckon, other posters may have more to add. Anything to avoid giving-up shooting....!

I have a Pachmyar Decellerator on my .375Ultra that works very well. I'm going to try a Limbsaver on my .350RM lightweight project.

I would use the Pachmayr X-Mag. It is so soft that you must use a special nail for your gun if you want to put it into an upright position into your safe...

Try the Limbsaver recoil pads and the mercury recoil reducers. Try one in the stock and one in the forend. That should help. And, as stated before, an increase in the gun weight will helpl

The Limbsaver pad (aka Remington R3 pad) really works. Put one on a 8mm Rem Mag and it really took the bite out of the gun. I have used mercury tubes in shotguns and they work very effectively. You also may want to consider getting a PAST recoil pad for your shoulder. The PAST pad works great for new shooters, especially when shooting off a bench.

I use a 1.5" thick Gooey Pad on my trapgun and it works great. I don't know how they would hold up on a rifle but you can check them out at www.trapdude.com

I use the black one but they do come in a variety of "stunning" colors if you are so inclined.

I have a real soft recoil pad on my 375 H&H and when its in my safe the bottom of it flattens out on the top side of my rifle. What I would like to know is there a pad that is almost solid rubber out there. I need a name please.

Store your rifles muzzle down...saves the pads and keeps "gunk" from getting into your action and/or into the stocks.

I keep all my rifles in my gun safe and there isn't to much of any thing in the air inside of it. Also have have a moisture remover inside there also. What I would like to know is the name of a good recoil reducer almost solid rubber pad is.

My .375 H&H has no recoil pad, but I have found that if I wear a thick leather jacket the "felt" recoil is much reduced. I reckon this is because the leather distributes the load across my shoulder and chest.

Bonanza, If I take it off it will shorten my trigger pull. Thats why I want to replace it.

Have a look at the Pachmayr 'Sporting Clays' recoil-pads, they have a hard heel which might meet your requirements.
