A difficult shot for my .30/30... or .450/400 3" NE!

Seriously though, that is quite an art. I used-to head-shoot pests at 200 metres (.22-250), and that seemed quite a distance!

I agree---shooting p-dogs here out in longer range can get really challenging once you exceed 300 yards or more--

Plan to give it a go with my sako trg-42 in 338 Lapua...just got a nightforce for it..so just need to start the reload process and find the time to get to the range a lot..curious how many attempts it will take to get a hit at that distance...

That's a long poke - need special bases too. Out of my price range - oh well.

Daryl,

You are correct---put 20degree bases on mine..per the info, that is suppose to be adequate for my 5.5-22 Nightforce..

Good shooting by the guy. He doesn't take long to aim and shoot either.

Agree---considering its 1760 yards...wont take much movement at that distance to result in a miss...

saw that Nosler comeour recently with a 300 gr Accubond with an incredible coefficient..curious how they would fly at this distance..

Agree, good bench Technique and follow through is vitally important when shooting longer ranges.

The higher the BC - usually the faster the required twist rate.

BT bullets normally require to be super sonic to maintain stability and transition into subsonic flight poorly, while flat based bullets transition into subsonic speeds with greater remaining accuracy. I've read this is the reason why the record 1,000yard BR groups were shot with flat based bullets, to maintain better accuracy over greater velocity changes.

Seems to me the 1.587", 5 shot group a few years ago was shot with 187gr. FB bullets (4 were in 1-1/4"). A .30 Wildcat- .30 Baer, I think. That record was then trashed with a 1.3" something more recently. Prior, a 3" group was the record, me thinks. Mind you, this was ONLY 1,000yards.

Getting the hits on a silhouette at 1 mile is an accomplishment for sure, especially with a factory rifle and 'seemingly' non-sniper or non-BR shooters.
