3", 750 grain bullet and 100 grains of Cordite, built on Webley action, just under 12lbs without the scope

She handles like a dream......now where is that nice big tusker?

Not mine, but surely one of the nicest falling blocks I know about.

Looks great!
Can't quite get comfortable with the thought of my eye behind that telescope over 100Gr Cordite behind a 750gr Bullet!

What a honey though.

I never thought I should dream about a singleshot rifle, with the exception of a rookrifle...this Rigby gun changed everything...

For sure - it would take a braver man than me! Would have to be a very tough scope to handle that recoil too!

She is incredibly beautiful. Strong and sleek at the same time. The owner is one lucky devil!

Lovely photos, bouldersmith. Thanks to you and other posters on these forums, I am gaining a better appreciation of the Webley's aesthetics. Probably prefer its lines to the Farquharson these days.

Thanks for posting.

Mr. Marrakai:

It seems you really are a bad influence on me. First you have me considering building an early Gibbs action into your pet .577-2 3/4", and now that you mention it, I just realized that I don't find Webleys ugly any more.

How much would a single rifle chambered for the .577-2 3/4" BPE need to weigh in order to be managable by a mear mortal?

Thanks!

Glenn

Most would agree that 9 1/2 lbs would be stout but comfortable. 10 lbs is probably a little better, but certainly no more than 10 1/2 lbs should be necessary IMHO.

Remember that cartridge will fit in the Martini Henry action to make a poor-man's version of the British single-shot heavy stalking rifle!

Mr. Marrakai:

Much obliged for the information.

This is a very early Gibbs action and besides the two .461 Gibbs cartridges, which don't excite me much, the only chamberings shown in the Gibbs catalog were the .500 BPE and the .577. I can't say as how I have any need for a .577, but it is the most interesting of the options.

Thanks again,

Glenn

and here I thought Glenn was one of the enlighten ones. His views on the .461 are surely reason enough for me to reconsider my thinking. Just teasing you.....but with such a questionable choice of cartridge I may have a hard time shipping that action your way.

Steve:

It is, and always has been, my intention to chamber the rifle for the .461 Gibbs. Any information to the contrary is just part of my opponent's campaign of lies and disinformation.

I hope this sets the record straight.

Glenn

My 577 2 3/4 NE Martini weighs right at 10 lbs, unloaded and without a butt plate. I was going to look into getting a depleted uranium slug (yeah right) to put in the buttstock to dampen recoil, but I guess I don't need it.
