Little 22 o/u Double
      #90144 - 30/11/07 01:16 PM

This little double started life as a J.P. Sauer 22long/ 9mm garden gun. It had been in a fire and both the stock and forend were burnt off. The barrels had came apart and the ribs were missing. The barrels were cut off making a mono block and bored out to accept two marlin microgroove 22 cal barrels. Both barrels were turned to the same diameter and soldered in the monoblock and chambered to 22 long rifle. Seperate side ribs as well as a quater rib were made to support a folding peep sight and lever style scoperings with a zeiss zeilklein. The extractors had to be modified to extract from both barrels. Converted about 20 years ago but never got around to checkering. Just a toy but many hours to complete.

Nice rifle-just makes me want to build mine that much more. Need to get the host gun first though.

Dale

What a cute rifle. I can think of a million things to do with it.

How does it shoot?

"lever style scoperings with a zeiss zeilklein"

I love your description and admire your work, but I'm curious. Do you mean an original Zeiss Zielklein with the 22mm tube, or are you referring to a later, larger diameter model? I have a thing for 22 mm scopes and own a number of them, mostly pre-War Noske's and Lyman Alaskans, as well as some original Zeiss and Hensoldts, but finding suitable rings is difficult. Most of the ones I have are Redfield, Buehler, Weaver or Griffin & Howe. I've never seen lever type scope rings for a 22 mm scope that I recall.

Dale,

Simply superb rifle! Would you please post a picture with the scope mounted whenever you find time?

Thanks and a big thumbs up for one of the cutest rifles posted here.

Gentlemen,
Thank you for the interest and kind remarks. Martin, I love your rifle and it's perfect in the caliber. I trust it's a one holer? :^)
My Dad did all the work on the rifle and he regulated it with the scope at 50 yds. for a 1' figure eight. With the peep sight we get minute of popcan at 25 to 50yds. which is how we usually play with it.
Xausa, I'm posting a couple of photos to help with my wording. We have 3 zeilkleins ( I have a thing for them also) and they have gotten bounced around from gun to gun over the years.
Here are the mounts with a leupold alaskan a 17 that Dad built and the zeilklein now set up for a 9.3x62 mannlicher.

There is only about .10 difference between the zeilklein and the alaskan so they interchanged fine. Dad fit the rings to the mounts but here is a photo of an orgional that was 22m

This set is machined off for the future. :^)

Since we're talking pink cadilacs,,,:^)

Aha, I see you have the elusive Redfield Senior mount on the Mauser, the same setup as the one I have on two of my original Newtons, plus, of course, the Lyman 1A cocking piece sight on the other Mauser. What classic setups!

I forgot to mention that I saw a photo in Jon Speed's new book of a zeilklein that is adjustabe for both windage and elevation. Wouldn't that be a gem to have?
