Auguste Francotte Double Rifle .22 Hornet SLE

A fun light gun with virtually no recoil. Best quality gun from one of Europe's most prominent makers. Reinforced coin finished action with full coverage scroll engraving. Two triggers and a standard safe. Very nice figured exhibition stock with meticulous fitting and attention to detail. Fitted with a scope in claw mounts. As new condition and presented in maker's leather case.

Just the right rifle to withstand a charging chipmonk!

Manual Safe
Ejectors
Sights: 1 + 0
Stock length: 14 1/4"

Yes, very nice work. The Hornet is a natural for a DR cartridge, being a miniature .450 NE in general shape. I have often thought that the perfect set of doubles might well be a .22 Hornet, a .32-40, and a .450 NE. A big step up in size each time!

...but what's this, for heaven's sake?

Wouldn't this have been better?

...or even this?

You can have all the workmanship in the world, but a little detail like that can ruin the whole thing.
Cal. 22 Horn. indeed! What were they thinking?

I would have thought they would have saved the reinforced action for the K Hornet.

I guess you can never be to safe.

While forbidden today, it was not uncommon, decades ago, to drive hunt hares with rifles. The .22 LR / .22 LRM were most often used but lacked stopping power on running hares, hence the preference for a little more punch. Such a chambered double rifle was the most flamboyant way to go, and a Francotte at that !

5 shots are a group.

Does anybody know what happened to this rifle? Sinner, you have your ear to the ground.

It appeared on the Westley Richards website for sale in 2004, but didn't stay on the site long. Dunno if it sold or was taken back home.

Damn nice little rifle! It would look splendid slung over my shoulder. Imagine a dangerous groundhog stalk!

Curl,

Gun belongs to Richard Edlund, he doesn't sell to often. I'll ask him for you if you wish.

Sinner,

Is this the same Richard Edlund who is a special effects photographer with several Academy Awards and known from the Star Wars films?

Yes that's him!

I know Richard very well, as I am in the entertainment business as well, and trade guns back and forth often with him.

His collection consists mostly of hi grade small bore British shotguns, however he does have about 50 or so superb rifles. He's a very private person. Most people don't even know Richard is into guns.

Then it's a very exotic rifle in very capable hands!

Did he buy it in 2004 when it was on the Westley Richards site, or was it his then? (Or is that any of my business anyway?)

I think it's a cool rifle and admired it when I saw it with Westley Richards.
