Old rifle question
      #47804 - 24/01/06 11:20 PM

Hi people, I'm new on this forum so excuse any stupidness in my questions.

I've just recieved an old rifle from my old man (it was his dads), it's a .22 Krico target shooting rifle as far as I know. It's still in perfect condition apart from the reciever and barrel had a bit of surface rust. It still fires perfectly. Would anyone know how much one of these would be worth?

Hi Funky

Welcome to the forum.

Not sure of value myself but you would probably need to contact a few dealers an ask them for an estimate. A search of the net may also turn up some info.

As far as registering is concerned you would be best to contact local authorities and explain situation. As long as the gun didn't get here by some illegal means then I am sure you will be OK. Some others may respond with better information here.

Cheers, I've looked all over the net and I can't seem to find much, and if I do it's all in german. May have to go down to Fisher Firearms with it. I'll probably have to register it before I do anything like that though.

FunkyMunky

Before you drive anywhere with it call the dealer and ask
the situation re registering it - no names - and if they can
get it on their books (register) then say you will be coming in.

Remember - if you got pulled up with the gun in the car you
have an unregistered firearm and it's on your head, not there's.

Hence suggest check before driving.

FunkyMunky,
When you go down to Fisher Firearms, see if Steve Smith is there, he worked there but only helps out part time now. If you see him send my regards to him. He will most probably be able to help you.

Cheers everyone. I looked at that link. Looks nothing like mine. It doesn't have any identifiable things on it other than the Krico stamp on the butt.
I'll give the local cop shop a visit and see how they can help me.

I would ring the Police Station, not turn up in person. In Victoria it seems as long as your licensed, dealers will put it in their books until a Permit arrives.
Cheers...

Well I went in there yesterday and explained the situatiion to them. I told them that it may not have ever been registered in Australia before. They hummed and haahed then gave me the register form and said that I would need to take it to the firearms branch for inspection to see if it is registerable. May take it to a local dealer first and get them to check it out, otherwise the cops might reject it and either confiscate it or destroy it. I wouldn't want that to happen.

No names were passed the entire time. They did tell me that I own an illegal gun right now.

I dearly hope that the USA doesn't go the way of the UK and Australia with their gun laws. What a terrible shame.

I believe SA has a firearms amnesty at the moment until the end of Feb or March.

Give the Firearms Branch a call and ask.

ALSO a local copper told me IF YOU turn up with an unregistered firearm NORMALLY nothing will be done ie you turn up to get it registered. If they catch you with an unregistered firearm they will throw the book at you.

It is worth fixing up asap.

I have chosed to use the edit function on this thread for a members own good.

I got a pic of the gun now. Can anyone even tell me what model it is? It's bolt action .22 rimfire. 10 shot magazine.
