The Savage is a great rifle I have used a few over the years the best ones are with the rotary magazine with the cartridge counter , ther were many different models made I currently use a Savage 99A in .308Win and .358Win. I never liked the drop magazine models. Savage no longer make the 99 and they are getting hard to find.

The 99 Savage is a wonderful lever gun.
Reliable, very strong, very slick, well balanced (typically) and nice to carry.

Tinker,
Do you see many in the US ? I heard they are getting hard to find there too.

They come around.

Finding one that's not butchered and is in good shape might take a bit of work, but they do come up.

I had a solid framed pre WW2 99 in 300 Savage that had been handled a lot and shot little. I see them from time to time.

The 99 I would like is a 1950's featherwieght in .250 Savage extremely hard to find.
