Ron should have been saying it was equivalent in case capacity to the .35 Whelen IMP.

Mine ran 2,519fps with 285gr. Speer.(4016fpe or there abouts)
It also did 2,670fps with 270's, but that Speer bullet is about useless.
These were using BLC2 only. I have a feeling it would have produced the same ballistics with H4895 powder, just as my .375/06IMP did.

The 250gn accubond really flattens it out, it will only be 100fps behind a 250gn 338win mag loading.
That jacks up the versatility of the 9.3x62 quite a bit.

No need for it to be slower than the .338's 250gr., none at all.
People think of it as a .35 Whelen opened up to .366. Not so.

It is the equivalence of a longer bodied, .35 Whelen IMP. My cases measure 78gr. capacity to the lip in Sako brass and 80gr., water capacity using formed WW '06 brass.
It has the same .454" shoulder, as the Ackley Improved cases.
There is no reason not to load it to it's potential.

Agree with the Ron stuff.

The 9.3x62 is the real effiency deal. It appears to be slow to the velocity folk & it has no belt.....

My loads get 2700fps with 250gn Woodleigh (now I am weeping)& absolutely clobber wild horses & feral donkeys! On a recent trip I used the 9.3 & my .338W in similar weight rifles on the above mentioned. Similar results however .338W kicks harder! On a feral bulls the 9.3 with heavy pills was more efficient1

What barrel length is that, mine was 20" and I got 2580fps with the 250gn nosler accubond?

It is surprising at least that an American "expert" calls the 9,3x62 "obscure" or "surprising"!

My 9.3x64 will get about 2650fps with the 286gn Woodies & 2570fps for the RWS TUGs, so a good 100fps+ faster than the 9.3x62, yes the 64mm case will more than equal the .375H&H in performance, so in comparison it goes to show how efficient the 62mm case is!

Interesting, but my Ruger 77 Tanger .338 win mag stays!

It shot Winchester 230 grain Fail Safes in Africa (all one shot kills, including a huge Eland bull) and caught up to an escaping 6x6 elk in Colorado- 210 Noslers. I have never hunted anything that requires the 250 grain bullets.
It is sighted in with a trajectory same as my Model 70 .308 165 grain ammo. I do not recall the muzzle velocity, but do have a mental image of the trajectory out to 300 yards.

So, all the minute details aside, it remains my top medium bore.

Honestly, an in my experience, I believe its more shot placement and type of bullet used that is more important than caliber.. yes, that comes into play, but...

I have used .416's, 375"s, 338's, 300's all in Africa over 6 Safaries.. I don't remember ever having to shoot an animal more than once with the exception of my first trip there.. I had loaded some 180gr Accubonds in my 300RUM.. had them zipping along around 3370fps.. they were warm loads...

Anyway, the old accubonds would not hold up to that velocity on game under 100 yards.. first animal shot was a waterbuck.. horrible penetration.. SO, I switched to my 416 Rem for the remainder of the trip for everything.. was shooting solids and 400GR A-Frames.. they did little to no damage even on the little stuff.. again, with the exception of a baboon that was about 180yards out running away.. he took one through the back.. about a silver dollar hole out his chest..

After that first trip I switched to Swift A-Frames.. loaded 180's for the 2nd trip.. worked fantastic..Loaded 200gr A-Frames the 2nd trop.. and have been using them in my 300RUM ever since for everything .. plains game, hippo, croc.. elk, deer, bears.. Also used 250's in my 338RUM.. 400fr's in my 416.. have had no issues and that is with close to 100 head of game harvested in Africa.. and more in N America...

As to Accubonds.. my experience shows they are a good bullet as long as MV is 3100fps or less.. have used them for most of my ibex, tur, and sheep hunts.. rifle is 280AI.. shooting 140GR Accubonds.. most shots have been 300 to 525yards.. all have been 1 shot kills.. with excellent bullet performance.. last once used with that rifle was actually an ibex in Turkey at 430 yards trotting through the timber.. he hit a clearing and I dumped him.. love that rifle..

Again, my point is, don't think any of those animals would have cared one way or another if they'd been hit with a 270 or 338.. all hit in the proper spot, all would have been just as dead..
