Beautiful Double, I can’t believe it won’t make more than it’s estimate? That’s a fraction of what it would cost to build today.
Thanks for posting !!!!!
Robert

" I can’t believe it won’t make more than it’s estimate? "

Probably because of that abominable beaver tail.... ;-)

It would have made considerable more than low estimate (for which it sold), if it have been engraved by Phil Coggan. Even though the engraving is excellent.

Kindest Regards;

I don't think anyone have could put it better 85lc!
This really is working art as well, a real show 'stopper' in all sense of the meaning!
Amazing piece of kit!

It is special, however, I am surprised they didn't fill the grain on the belly of the butt stock and beside the lever. The flat portions of the stock appear filled, though definitely not the areas I noted.
The engraving is really SOMETHING special.

This rifle went for 60,000 GBP or about 83,000 USD which is probably a huge bargain compared to the cost of ordering the rifle new.

The interesting thing is that this rifle was subject to 20% VAT, meaning that a UK or EU purchaser would have been slammed for a further 12,000 GBP plus VAT on the auction house commission. However, a sale to a US buyer would have been 'zero rated' as an export. So, a little gaming opportunity for the Americans.

The same thing was true for the Hartmann & Weiss .500 Schuler, the Brenneke .505 Gibbs, and a couple of the H&H bolt rifles that came into the UK from Sudan.
