hey Everyone new to this place but seems to be the place on the web to ask questions regarding hunting and such.

I would like to here your opinons on how many yards is respectable in regards to sighting in a scope with a .22lr.

Your opinons would be helpful i have sighted it in to 75 yards at the moment but is this to much would 50 yards be the go

Cheers Will

welcome Will, hope you enjoy the forum!

regarding your question, it really depends on what you're doing with your rifle.

I have an old BRNO model 2 that I use for busting bunnies. Because it is moderated I use subsonic ammo and found that I was frequently estimating the range incorrectly when taking long shots so I moved from a 50 yard to a 100 yard zero and cured that problem.

In my ruger 10/22 I use only high velocity ammunition and have found that a 75 yard zero is just about spot on. I have a number of friends who swear that 75 yards is the best all round distance for subsonic or low velocity ammo, but maybe they are better at estimating range in the dark than I am!!

If you are habitually shooting close in, go for the 50 yard zero, if you take shots to 100 to 125 yrds, go for the 75 yard zero.
