Wanted to give a shout-out to one of our members here - 3DogMike in Colorado. Having mentioned the slow twist of my recently acquired Needham double, he offered and mailed twenty paper patched bullets to give a try - Gratis!
Can't thank him enough for the projectiles - and the kick in the pants to get back to the reloading bench!
Now for a nice day and a little time to get to the range. Looking forward to it!

Ben, thanks for the kind words, glad to help. I might add here that those bullets come from a Steve Brooks mould http://brooksmoulds.com Asked for a 300 grain .500 Paper Patch Hollowpoint cast of 1:30 to duplicate the original Express bullets, and the mould does exactly as asked. IMO you can’t go wrong with a custom Brooks mould. - Mike
PS: I might add that in the same vein, our “Double Rifle Guru of the Frozen North” Cal Pappas is doing the same for me. He’s sending some 12bore conicals to try in my Lyon & Lyon before I decide on a mould.

Yes, it is. Cpt. Curl found some light-weight bullets that work VERY well in his Purdey .500's.

Always good to see guys helping out with "try before" bullets or cartridges. Before a mould or whatever is purchased.
And even better guys who receive a favour, give it out to someone else as well. Makes the world go round. Community spirit.

Lovely piece of kit there Huvius! 3DogMike certainly made a nice lot of rounds for you - they look that good they could pass for 'factory' ammo! Please let us know how they go in your Needham.....& a few more pictures please if you can it certainly looks an interesting piece - any idea when it was built? As a side note Mike has helped myself out with some alloy advice on my Martini, I still haven't had a chance to get out yet & try things, its been bloody wet here in NQ right now! So thanks Mike again for our help, I'll let you know when I get the chance to get out. Cheers 93x64mm

I’m interested to hear how those bullets work in Ben’s Neeham .500.....I use them in a W. Richards .577/.500 No.2 BPE that was made circa 1873-1874.
Paper Patch are relatively labor intensive but I surely do like the historical connection that they convey.
Here’s a handfull of .577 3-1/4” BPE and my Jeffery - Mike

I, for one, would really like to learn more about that rifle and then loads you are using!

Should I talk about it here or start a specific thread? I thought I had a .577 3-1/4” Jeffery thread a couple of years ago before photobucket imploded, can’t find it now. - Mike

I think a new thread would be cool. Not many 577 3-1/4” rifles around (my Henry is one) so it would be nice to get some data down for such a rarity.

Hey, I've got a .577 3" and a .577 2-3/4". Let's don't make this into a dick measuring contest!

Yeah - but yours is a full .5" longer than Curly's "little one". That must reach into the Nether-regions of the hunt.
