Builder for a Ruger #1 project in the USA?
      #298320 - 03/04/17 02:18 AM

Howdy,

I'm looking for a builder for a project I've been thinking about for a while. A Ruger #1 or Ruger #3 in 26 Nosler. Thinking an MPI stock, 28 inch SS barrel and really get it screening with 100 to 120gr Barnes Xs.

I had someone building it but .... they proved unreliable.

Any suggestions on a gun smith for this kind of work?

Best,

Rell

Rell,
If you do find a good #1 Ruder smith please share the I to.
I also have a project forming in my head based on a #1.

Reto Buhler makes probably the nicest Ruger No.1 rifles ever built.

Clyde Moore at D&D Gunsmiths in Troy, Michigan built one for me back in 2002. I don't know if he still works for that shop, but I'm quite happy with my rifle. He built himself a nice one in .450 Nitro, and I really liked it, so I found a .375 H&H and he rebarrelled it to .500 Nitro 3 1/4" and built a nice quarter rib machined for Talley rings. He had to open up the loading slot a bit to fit the big case. The rifle functions perfectly and shoots great.

SSK Industries also does a lot of No1 customization.

Cheers,
Rick
