I own a RIFLES Inc. in 280 Ackley--it is amazingly accurate...even though only weighing 6 + lbs with scope, mounts, rings, and sling.

Not sure what the big deal with this is, as all they are doing is shooting off a BENCH or when hunting using a bipod.

I thought it might be real technique of shooting a lighter rifle off hand.

Interesting points. My Model 7 7SAUM is 6lb 10oz. I've had a few misses that I couldn't really explain. I'll have to remember those techniques.

That's an interesting article. I would have liked to have known about it a couple of years ago when I was working with an ultra light in 280AI (just under 5 pounds without scope). My experience was that light rifles were really challenging to shoot accurately, one time I could shoot out and the next I couldn't hit anything. If I still had my 280AI (it's out on consignment at a shop) I would try some of these techniques, I've since moved on t from the minimalist weight school of thought.

None of the writer's techniques have much to do with making a hunting shot. He even mentions using a fouling shot.

A hunting rifle must be able to reliably deliver the first shot into the kill zone every time from a cold barrel from any reasonable hunting position.

Otherwise, it is useless.
